Soy beans fresh are 20% oil and 10% water
When you extract the 20% you effectively leave 78% so you are down to 71% used neither for oil or direct consumption as fresh dried beans in any form
Then they have failed to take into account the amount of soya meal used as meal in human food production. A figure which is not easily available but it is widely used in the food industry for blending into vegetarian foods and products such as flour for bread fortification

Today in food tech, my yr7 child and his class were told by their teacher:

Cows caused climate change due to methane.

Farmers dump excess manure in rivers.

Transporting animals for slaughter is a major emitter of co2.

A field of cows produces less food than a field of wheat.

Dairying farming uses all the water and causes draught.

I'm kidding you not. This is a rural secondary school in mid Lincolnshire. Could someone link me to the thread on non-biased school resources. Obviously, the school is about to get s strongly worded letter.
Its what they hear on the BBC and read in the Guardian.....

I have to constantly point out to our school that ruminant methane is cyclical and cows can only cause climate change if cow numbers increase... With fairly stable cattle numbers it is human activity that adds additional methane not ruminants.

A field of cows does produce less food than a field of wheat but not all fields are suitable for growing wheat, man can not live on wheat alone or grass for that matter

Very worrying when the teacher says dairy farming causes draught. :ROFLMAO:

that looks great, one question, where's the mud ?!
we have had school visits, really worth while, schools don't seem to want to come now, transports/hassle etc. The one that scared me, was the one bro in law, brought from bristol, strict lecture to stay together, not go off on their own, don't go into pens etc, 100% ignored, buggers were absolutely everywhere, they all thought it fantastic though.

Archaeology here is amazing, we had the archaeologists here for 18 months, cant see alot above ground, but underneath, fantastic, reckoned its been a 'unit' for 3500 years, even have a bronze age fortified settlement. I would add, they could have told me anything, because l wouldn't know any different.

Went to primary school with the chief archaeologist, a local farmers son, and the only slightly obese vegan, l have ever seen, and he did nothing to push/promote his veganism whatsoever.
We work REALLY hard to avoid mud....

The site is on thick London clay

It used to be a real challenge when we only had 2 roundhouses and 30 kids on site. We could only open April to November.

Now we have 7 roundhouses and a 20x30 m modern building and regularly have 120 kids on site all year round. 15,000 kids through in 2019.

BTW, on the soya issue it's actually pigs and poultry that use the biggest proportion.

Humans consume several times more than ruminants do.

In fact Tofu and Soya "milk" use twice as much as beef and dairy combined! (Try throwing THAT one in next time a vegan casks out livestock for soya deforestation) (y)

Talking to daughter the other day, and said I was grading off mud from one of the farm tracks before putting stone on it, and she said "all I can remember from growing up is mud everywhere!"

Farmers generally are shite at public relations, would class the NFU as worse, while we might know we are reasonably carbon friendly, plenty of horrifically carbon unfriendly industries, have very effectively pointed the finger at, farting cows, and 'intensive farming', cannot blame them for doing that, we are an easy target, that's been targeted very successfully.

This has to be a spoof thread? Teachers surely understand the need to learn about something properly before teaching it?

Having raised two articulate, forthright and erudite children, I'd take their word. However it's still heresay, so I will tread gently. Both children are home at 4pm and, over a hot drink tell me about their days and plan homework etc before going about their business. Food tech was second to last lesson, so fresh enough in the mind. Eldest child responded "yes, she's a bit like that". So I don't expect they've concocted a yarn to spin.

I'm a chair of governors elsewhere, so I know the drill. But I won't have this put out as balanced learning without something being said.

We are where we are. Teachers are up to their necks in everything from ofsted to covid. They are going to get their teaching aids from online resources such as Twinkl. We can either huff and puff about that, or we can get some resources of our own on there. But that involves our national bodies being marginally better than useless.

Such a shame. The teachers I know of could turn their hand to anything, two of them are highly qualified beyond degree level.

I’ve a friend pulled his children out of school because of teachers teaching his children lies about farming and all and countryside and bullying his children when they questioned the teachers , him and his wife home teach their children now , good for them I say he also said he wasn’t happy them teaching them all
About lesbians gays transvestism etc ,
There's a fine line that's been crossed between education and indoctrination.
The education system should be told to stick to education and not social manipulation and engineering.
