I wait until the t lines are visible on my s barley and I spread my p and k and n. Some experts maintain the the n p k should be spread pre sowing. Land is index 3 and 4 for p and 3 for k. Which of us are correct?

I put my P and K on in the autumn with a muckspreader.

N on today straight after drilling so as not to squash any growing bits.

I would have thought that putting it on before would just add compacted wheel marks.

At those P and K indices you don't need any really. What you are applying is just replacing offtake. The N needs to be available to the plant as soon as it emerges.

I always put on a compound fertilizer pre sowing. It's in the seed bed ready for the plants as they germinate and grow then.

The N wants to be on ASAP. In the seedbed if no rain forecast. Showers this week so it will dissolve quickly if on top after sowing. Malting or feed?

Dont make a lot of odds, what the weather's like and how warm the soil is does though.
