Personally, I'm going for 30 kg/haN + 40 kg/ha SO3 on the seedbed then the remaining 120 kg/ha of straight N at 2 leaves+ when the roots have a better chance of taking it up before a heavy rain leaches it past them. That's for both spring barley and spring osr.

i,m going a third on the seedbed, two thirds post emergence for spring wheat, half and half for Borage/Spring rape.. I want those crops motoring when they get through.
I dont think it makes much difference.I like a fair bit in the seedbed so that its there and working from day one.Top dressings can often lie for weeks waiting for rain to wash them in.The exact amount of N depends on whats in the compound youre using and how much youre putting on.When it comes to top dressing,I dont intend to put on more than a cwt/acre at a time from now on.Extreme rain events are far to common these days to gamble any more at one gn spring barley,I use 3 cwt of 13 13 20 in the seed bed.
