Anyone identify these seeds please - friend asked as they found them in hay

Is that the same as cleavers? Apparently much larger seeds than cleavers

Probably is Cleavers more commonly found in a field than the Goose Grass.

Cleavers being a herb people will be sticking in herbal leys next!!!

I would have said cleavers as well but I think medick seeds split in half somehow whereas cleavers don't?

Looks very much like cleavers usually found stuck to the wool jumpers of folk that sleep in hedges.

Looks to big for cleavers but hard to get a scale in the picture. They could possibly be burdock seeds.

I don’t think that they are cleavers, the hooks on the seed look too large. Likewise I doubt that they are Burdock.

and would also occur in grassland so very likely be cropped in hay

The seeds don't look like that though, seed pods do a bit but they are golf ball size

No but I see where you're coming from.

Plant I am thinking of it quite tall - about 1-2 ft and branched with purple flowers that leave behind the pen caled
