seed prices and availability

As a grower of seed crops I can say that so far only one load has been collected from farm.
I can see that I am going to be left with sheds full of good seed as farmers will have planted HSS by the time the seed plants are able to collect anymore.

Have to say I’ve had great supply through open field and adm.barley seed since mid July and ordered another 3 bags and that was here on the 20th.had wheat ordered back in March for 15 sept latest delivery.when I chased it,it became clear I’d not get it for another couple weeks so replaced it and got delivery following day.

Interesting. I’m in the same boat. I’ve got a seed crop sitting in the shed that was harvested ages ago. Passed two germ tests but no collection, I’ve been told they’re struggling to get transport.

Im getting the vibe from from my arable pals that like everything else the price is rising but more concerning is the availability and delivery time , are others in the same boat waiting for seed
Ordered some new seed 20 weeks ago at £370/t and still not arrived. Anybody think they are hoping I’ll cancel because they can resell at a higher price? That’s off two completely separate suppliers as well.

To be honest I am not too bothered if my new stuff doesn’t turn up as long as I know before the dressers turn up so I can get a bit more farm saved done. They did say deliveries where on target when I spoke to them Friday so will see.

I cannot think of anywhere local who does seed anymore
and why is that? could it be that the multi nationals have through their moddus operandi eliminated the small guys and are hell bent on controlling the market wether for inputs or outputs and a lot of folk have been suckered in with buy now pay later deals which resut in for the producer a few £ less on sales and a few few pounds more on inputs

dont take this the wrong way, but how come they could deliver costello and not the others
I rang around just asked what was available. Was offered exstase but already have enough exposure to it.
Costello was available due to there seed tonnage had dressed out better than expected so it was bagged and ready to go. After reading on here people struggling to get seed delivered it would be silly to pass it up.

ok see your point but as you can properly gather wouldnt have been my first choice nor would I go along with the line that seed tonnage had dressed out better than expected it just doesnt
