Self Contained Annexe

Just had full planning refused, but said they would support an Annexe on the farmhouse, what classifies as an Annexe?...if i built one i would like it self contained....does it have to adjoin the house?...does a passageway count to it count as being joined?..and how big can it be...love to erect a 2 storey 2 bed annexe...am i asking for too much

What was it refused for?

I think an annex by definition is a humble dwelling with kitchen, bathroom one bed and living area.

I suspect a 2 storey extension wouldn't tick their box but as ever each council has their own interpretation

A caravan on the garden or driveway of a house is classified as an annex if the occupants cook and eat meals etc in the house.

I'm guessing thats also the definition of a built annexe?

When we did our planning the said we could build whatever we like as long as it was connected to the original bungalow!!!

In the end we got permission for a new house with an annex if we promised to take down the bungalow.
Annex had to have a connecting door which magically turned into a bookcase soon after!! [emoji12]
