It's sold now? Any experience with the Gem sapphires? Do the wheel motors give a lot of trouble? We have an old version one here with a Nissan patrol engine and gearbox set up so not familiar with wheel motors! Mine more of an antique set up!!

You'll find a self propelled for your budget but I wouldn't expect to run it a few years without some breakdowns and spending some money on it each year like you would with a mounted 15k sprayer. However a set of row crops alone for a tractor will be 3-5k second hand plus if u want a front tank and then when it's all set up have you got a tractor to keep on it most of the time. Depends on your farm and how much u like the workshop. We moved to a cheap self propelled and like it (most of the time)

Got a housham super sprint 2500 for sale, 4700 hrs.

Comes with floatations too, 24m booms.

£22500

Would a contractor not be a better option? Fixed cost no big bills, will come with a machine with all the bells and whistles on, auto section, variable rate application etc etc. Along with well trained staff and a back up plan. If you commit your acerage I'm sure you'd get some competitive prices, would also free you up to concentrate on other activities. All I can see with a low cost self propelled is getting let down when you want it most, coupled to the inevitable big bill that you will get!

Sorry to be pessimistic

For 150 acres a chaviot 2000 would suit well ,,,,, low ground pressure and high clearance for about 7 k ,,,,, basic mechanics which a good spanner man can mend fairly cheaply
Though I do tend to agree with Jettemp

The trouble is there isn't much in the way of small simple self propelled sprayers being made anymore. Everyone seems to make big stuff for big farms. By the time it's in the price range of the 200 acre man its knackered. I know cos I've looked.

Best bet would be a Clayton 4105/4120. Finding a decent one Is becoming increasingly difficult though.

I agree Drillman hard to get a good one, don't agree with gettin contractor though, in my area in south of Ireland it's mainly tillage but trying to get a good lad to do the spraying is near impossible, have tried it before, they come when windy and want to spray in conditions that are not ideal, sprayer is most important piece of equipment in the shed in my opinion so il keep lookin till I find something I'm happy with! If your sprayers your most important machine don't buy an old self propelled! Seriously it will only cause you issue when you want it along with big bills. If you have a reliable tractor surely a mounted machine would be a better bet?

Well to be honest we got great years of service from an old gem sprayer just needs updating at this stage, thanks for ur opinion but don't agree with you Jetemp, after having one for years il be buying one again for clearance reasons ect, [emoji106] Garry Avision seems to have great selection.

@T7170 we all have different view points and good luck to you with whatever you purchase. I completely get the clearance issue, its one of the reasons we run a pair of self propelled.
Of our 2 machines one has had a hydro pump and a couplewheel motors in the last 12 months (we do a huge amount of roadwork), the pair have had a full chassis pin and bush overhaul, those bills alone are dam difficult to justify on our 3500-4000 acres plus small contract spraying operation.
Like I said at the start I wish luck with which ever machine you choose, it would make me extremely nervous!

Can't see how you'd get anything from Gary Avision at a decent price? All seem to be very expensive for their ages/hours.

This is the sort of thing I'm talking about ,,,, although I bought myself a fairly up to date Househam air ride I've kept my old Chav 2000 as back up and to help occasionally if the rec sheet pile gets a bit thick ,,,,, my old chaviot although looks a bit rough around d the edges put in nearly 25 000 acres of work in its last 2 or 3 years of active service with out letting me down once,,,,,, yes I had to do work to her but always on a wet day ,

Simple sprayer for simpletons :) that's me I was referring to of course ,,,,,,, and of course you get to be known as Jesus because of your ability to walk on water ,,,,,,, as long as you have the extra wide tyres ,,,,, quite a bonus for your area I would of thought ,,,,, ask @Gadget for a second opinion , I think he had @warksfarmer old machine

In the link, I like the description of the gearbox as powershift, I assume it is an Auto. ours is a manual box and as @Mr Charisma has done we kept it when we bought an old Multidrive with a Knight sprayer. The Chaviot is light so we use it early in the spring.
A neighbour of mine is selling a Housham with a stainless 2500l tank, 6 cyl engine, RDS, and fast fill. It has done 9000hrs but he tells me that it is all good, he wants around £13,000.00.

We may have a rb16 for sale if we upgrade soon. Been offered a 5 year old rb26 which we are thinking about buying. Or do we go for a new trailed sprayer with gps and all the extras, and save £15k?
