self propelled sprayers?

Hi all, looking at changing our 4000ltr 24m sands. Would like to consider all options so all other makes sticking with 4000ltr, possibly 36m booms, auto steer and auto on/off spraying, good handling and light on its feet in winter, crops spraying, cereals, s.beet and spuds. People's experience's and views please good or bad?

Lots of happy Bateman users in here! I know several happy Sands users too. Househam seem to be making a bit of a comeback (from a low starting point).

Have a look at the Avison Sprayers website to see what people are trading in these days. Avison also do contract spraying & always use one of the tidy second hand Bateman units which says a lot.

No not at all its not for me. My brother in law is looking for one that's all. I wouldn't go away from sands I don't think. I love mine and will almost certainly be going for another.

Bateman no contest IMO, not just the machine as they have plenty equals these days IMO but the company backup and service plus rock should residual values make it by far the best package IMO

We are on our 2nd now over 12years and it will be replaced by a third next year I expect

Fair comment I think you should look further than the machine and include back up etc which i cannot fault with sands to add balance. I always like the look of Agrifac probably a different league but you don't hear much on here.

I dont get this rock solid residuals malarky. Fendt etc have the same waffle. Changing like for like brands is very similar money regardless of colour. It just some you have more to lay out in the first place!

In a wild moment of daydreaming it could be easy to be seduced by the more "toy" laden charms of a Challenger, Agrifac or Amazone, then the realities of Bateman ownership kick back in, and i feel a little bit ashamed to be thinking of cheating on her ;) seriously, mine is a 2yr old / 2000 hrs RB35 the only issue in around 25,000 ha of spraying and liquid fert, has been a suspension damper, its a bit like Ronseal, it does what it says on the tin !!

I am due to get a quote for a new one, to see whether to go for this Sept, or next for replacement, but i doubt i will even look at anything else, not unless the new quote makes me fall off my chair

iirc the UK SP market is around 250 units a year, Bateman make just over 100 a year, some of which are exported i know, but its around that level.

Bateman don't cost more to start with though - they make agrifac, JD and challenger etc look cheap IMO - our current machine is I'm told still worth mid 60's after 6 years work and cost 110 when new

I reckon that's pretty good for a hard worked farm machine and I doubt you would find many other brands retain over 50% of value after 6000hrs ?

Bateman don't do trade ins by the way, there us no need as they are so easy to sell used, I never even advertised our last one and had half a dozen after it, I'm already being asked to offer the current machine to a few when time comes to change

Best bit of farm kit I have ever been responsible for putting on our farm both from a financial and performance point of view

I would second your views on costings, a neighbour has recently priced up new SP's, i think the challenger was around 50k more than an equivalent Bateman / Sands / Househam price range..they ended up buying a Merlin, i still wake up in a cold sweat at the thought of a 07 Househam i used to drive, but i am sure they must of improved since then, it couldn't of got any worse i guess :banghead:

7000 hour RB 25's still at £40k isn't bad going is it?
