I was bored this afternoon when rain stopped spraying so I took a few photos. Thought I'd put them up here just as something light hearted, not wanting to start any debate!

If I could clone this I would, she's my ideal maternal ewe. Nothing to do with colour it's just she's easy to identify. A shearling., lambed on her own, she's not very big and hasn't a big appetite so I could keep 25% more of these on the same acreage as a mule. Her lambs will never get massive but I would expect them to be 40 - 45 Kgs when sold by Jan at the latest. They should be OK for the export market which as shown since Jan is much more resilient to price drops. Very quiet and easy to manage, NEVER jumps a wall or fence or runs off if you go near the lambs, so a big saving in fencing costs. My one eyed 10 year old collie can round them up so no expensive dogs. Only had 0.5 kgs of cake for 42 days before lambing and access to lifeline blocks, nothing but grass since lambing. Downside you've got to lamb them inside.

The second picture (to show it's a maternal line 😂 ) is her mother who is a 5 crop

Why do need to lamb inside ? Is it because of rubbish weather , or convenience? Ewes like that would be great outdoors!

Got you , are the lambs by a texel?
It’s the age old juggle at lambing time of wanting a fresh bite to lamb on and milk off, yet not letting them on any fresh stuff too early . 👍

had a flock of Romneys about 35yrs ago bought a flock right out were the worst sheep ive ever had big clumpy and unproductive ,lacking in milk and prolificacy, awful to shear compared to the mules we also had at the time.infact inevery way they were no where near as productive as the mules, but they werent self replicating were they.
unlucky with bad genes with them Romneys no doubt but turned me off enough never to want them again.

From now on were not gonna bother with anything other than Exlana and Texel, and mix of both.

bits and bobs of wool or not doesnt btherme at all, as long as if they have wool theyre easy to clip. clean heads bellies and legs make shearing a pleasure anyway.
