Self sufficiency

Could be better times ahead if they take this seriously.

'they' being who ?
To tie this in to other threads trending on here, one in three of the carrots served with Christmas dinner on Friday will have been purchased from Tesco.
They will be taking it seriously, but don't imagine for a moment that any of their contingency plans will benefit a farmer near you.

They couldn't give a fork , they not got a scooby when it comes to getting the best out of this country's patch of dirt !
They just want it to go to scrub for some reason :scratchhead:

Environment. Greening and being seen to be carbon friendly and saving the planet...

Small print actually reads revert our land back to scrub and move all industry and production abroad so that it can be bought and imported cheap (so long as the £ remains strong) and any nasty pollution is not seen or heard in this country - which makes it not our problem

There’s room for both in farming, doesn’t have to be one or the other.

Just been watching several news reports about the French blockade, and our self sufficiency in food (or lack of) has been highlighted.

Correct. Surely to god in this modern world we can be a bit more self sufficient. Trouble is the population has been conditioned into expecting produce all year round in spite of the climate.

brings home the frightening way modern life is ? i dont remember the winter of 1963 that was below freezing for 3 months ? but i remember the one yes one week of no fuel in 2000 ? and how that if that had gone on just a few weeks longer the near anarchey that would have happened to society ?

Look at it this way. Lets say the PM has a series of zooms lined up for today, with the following 10 bodies, to discuss this issue.
NFU. Defra. Small business federation. Tesco. No 11. Kent County Council. Road haulage federation. Friends of the Earth. LGA. France.
There is one, and only one, of those bodies who know before their meeting that they will get everything, absolutely everything, that they want out of it, for today, tomorrow and all days after.
