Never Driven a Fendt or any other CVT Tractor apart from the Dyna-vt massey which i have
its so smooth & so efficient from 0 to 50kph pulling onto a main road.
no power-shifting/gear changing just a progressive/linear increase in speed.
Until you drive you wont get them.
Fab on Landwork any revs vs any speed you need. all power related of course.
Down side is that lo/hi range change but you get used too it & becomes 2nd nature as you enter or leave a field.
only ever needed to stop to flick to low on very steep hills with a fair weight in a trailer say.

My one issue with the Fendt is it won’t change from field to road range before the transmission oil is 10 degrees C. It needs to move to warm up, that is half a mile up the road for me at 25kph. Guaranteed a truck in a hurry behind me :)
on the other hand gearbox and hydraulic oil separate is a fine idea

Cant say ive ever once not been able to change hi/lo on the massey from cold mind ???

Only happens in winter, it’s obviously a thing set by Fendt software. I can put the oil temp on the screen and the moment it reaches 10 degrees I can change range. The solution is to buy a 1050 and have no range change :)

Ticking over 5/10mins not sort it like? i kinda do that anyways before driving it away on the road more so from cold start

Had my first day driving a cvt tractor earlier this week. Spent the day ploughing with an Auto Command 225. Can see the advantages of it but it wasn't set up correctly and I'll have to find out more about it before the next day. For most of the day I would've got more done with the usual Power Command transmission, although the higher reverse speed was welcome on the bit that could only be ploughed downhill.

there a bit more complicated right enough it all depends on how you want to use some of the features.
i drive the massey in stick mode all the time, cant for the life of me use pedal mode for anything i just hate it end of.
neither can i get DTM as massey calls it or TMS on a fendt to work how i want it too so never use it.

New Holland auto command is way ahead of the power shift version. I've had both on demo in a t7.250 and the vario will run rings round the power command.

We've 3 JD's with autopower and the fastrac with vario and they're just so much nicer to drive than a power shift . You can get just the right speed for what you want slow right down with no jerking for rough bits of field etc etc the list of good things just goes on and on for me .

Mine won’t change ranges either when it’s too cold with the range button but if you put it in neutral first then you can change ranges.

Why dont lorries have them?

Most trucks have the option of a fully automatic gearbox now anyway. CVT is less efficient because you have two drivetrains- a mechanical one and a hydrostatic one which mesh. Trucks have torque converters I understand, mostly for fuel efficiency and ease of use. Less need for slow speed work where the engine revs need to be independent of travel speed.

Bonus of CVT is not having to touch pedals all day, much much smoother take up of power when changing direction etc Also the ability to work at a forward speed you need rather than at one dictated by the engine speed or gearbox. Easing back on stick slows tractor to pass by stuff or slow down in a rough spot. push forward to get back up to speed. In the field it couldn't be simpler.

Can drive a CVT loader tractor like a loading shovel. Smooth, quiet and no jerking around. Better for machine and man on it. I'm not fully conversant in how to operate the JD nor NH system but for the full time operators out there they can customise virtually everything. JD system is a lot more jump on drive me compared to NH I would say. Took me a bit of time to get used to the autocommand but I actually found it a nicer place to be.

Can drive a modern CVT machine with electrohydraulic spools all day and still feel as fresh at the end of the day than when I first stepped up into it. Slows down on hills a bit in transport (can probably dial that out with settings) but hardly a problem.
