Selling homemade gins/vodka

Looking into the viability of making homemade infused alcohol and wondering about the steps needed to sell to the public... legalities etc.

You will need to speak to HMRC . I rather suspect you are going to find it quite complex. If you google making selling spirits UK will take you to ttheir site

Plenty of people have started doing it,so I wouldn't imagine it is that hard. Loads of info on internet.

Need hygiene certif, kitchen inspected & registered, ingredient list and source (chain). As for selling spirits then Environmental health will have all the info you need. I cant imagine its difficult.

All sorts of licenses are required. listed on the link I posted. We'll be sticking to homebrew for personal use.

hmm interesting, we've done this as gifts and are interested in doing it for our farm shop (maybe!!)

Looks like a compounders licence is needed. Can't believe we'd be liable for Spirits Duty as that would have been paid for by the spirit producer, more reading needed

I asked an old guy about that when I lived in Glenlivet. All he said was, "It's a lot easier now we have Calor!" Apparently, someone had a still in the clock tower in the middle of Dufftown. Sarrounded by distilleries, no one noticed the reek and they got away with it for years!
