remember everyone the most unique thing about TFF classifieds is that is it free for farmers - we could make it loads better if we started charging you but i’m pretty sure that would not go down well !

if you all cast your minds back to the rubbish system it replaced i think we are moving slowly in the right direction
To be fair Facebook adds is free to farmers as well, so freenes is not unusual ,

We held our flock dispersal on farm in September and were due to have the on farm sale of everything from the tractors down to spanners etc. in April - your typical farm sale really. Well obviously that was cancelled and it doesn't look like we'll be able to hold it before we need to leave so...how to sell everything??? The machinery is more straight forward - was probably going to use faceache, but just imagine trying to list EVERYTHING that you'd need to get rid of! Not sure if anyone has any suggestions or ideas to make life easier otherwise it is going to be a hell of a task and very tricky pricing a lot of the 'small' items. Was going to make a separate post but then spotted this one. Any ideas welcome!

Who were the auctioneers to be?
Stephensons would probably do you an online only auction.
Put everything out in rows and have a viewing day by appointment only. Only allow so many on site at a time.

Facebook is a good place to sell but it’s a bit like the wild west re scammers etc, buyers and sellers needs to have eyes wide open !

i would buy cheaper stuff on there but not sure it’s the place to sell a 100k plus tractor or combine ?

if ever anything suspect gets listed on TFF Farm Classifieds it’s not long before a tff member lets us know and it’s removed / seller banned and blocked - we have even helped the police recover a load of stolen GPS gear in the past - tracking down the seller by ip address etc

Leyburn held our sheep sale. I did have half a thought about whether any auction would run a sort time limited bidding process and stuff could be advertised in a catalogue on their website - and advertised well. I'm just not sure what could be possible but the viewing day by appointment is a good idea.

Problem with selling it yourself (other than the enormous hassle) is you'll be left with all the useable but worthless stuff that always finds a home at a sale. Bent gates, drain rods etc

It could even be a viewing week. If the auction was active for a week like you say a bit like ebay, people then have several days to view and then bid. Many more appointments available over a week than just a single day. If all lots were in 10 item rows you could limit it to one person per "row" at a time. If you want to view lot 5 it is in row 1......and also lot 37 it's in row 4. Even have a one way system like the supermarkets.

We're discussing a couple of options with marts that are setting up online timed auctions for livestock so we'll see if anything comes of that but @Dave W is absolutely right - it's all the stuff that always seems to find a home at a sale that's most problematic!

I don’t tend to use eBay, definitely not PayPal!! Because they had the cheek to ask for proof I was paying tax after I sold a machine on there. That’s between HM, my accountant and myself, none of their business!
This was around the time when it was exposed how little tax they pay themselves.
So I would be interested in an alternative as I think the basic premise is good, but would be better without the greasy fingers

If I changed it to The Godfather would it speed things up ?

and why is the app not working today or Taptalk @Clive

no idea re the app, we have no control over it - you could contact tapatalk help though maybe ?

can’t do username until in the office due to security and we are all working from home right now just popping in when we have to - will do it next time me or Chris are there

Are the old app and Taptalk one of the same . They both came back together just now having been off all day ?

What’s the typical cost to sell a farm machine at auction, ie seller fees and buyers premium ?

what does eBay charge to sell a farm machine by auction ?

are there other websites you use to sell farm machinery by auction ?

We have a development list of updates and upgrades planned for Farm Classifieds over coming months and are investigatIng the possibility of offering a low cost auction option to sellers. Assuming it was much cheaper than alternatives would such feature be something you might use ?
Bit like e bay then Clive?

Stags have been doing them in the south west for quite a few years now, the one above is a collective currently running but they also do whole dispersals..

sold a few things myself through them, at first I was sceptical but it actuallly worked very well
