And you ring up or email POA items and they never get back to you or get fed up people ringing all the time.Latest wheeze is to tell you " The price I quote is only valid for 7 days ". I can't help feeling amused when the tractor is still in the yard unsold a month later......
I am pretty sure, I started a thread with something similar- a while ago, it really annoys me when the web site can't put the priceI searched TFF last night to try and find the answer to this very question, as maybe it's been covered before. No luck though .
I guess the answer is if they don't bother stating the price, then don't bother asking . Really annoying.
Recently had a quote for a complete heating system in a house including new boiler. Took two weeks to come after measuring up, and at the bottom of the email it said,Latest wheeze is to tell you " The price I quote is only valid for 7 days ". I can't help feeling amused when the tractor is still in the yard unsold a month later......
why cant dealers just put the price they want on an item it would save us having to ask all the time seems pointless to me to not do it.................................
Their NOT tied to a Price and can make up another price for another caller to adjust in their favour if part ex to be taken in?I would guess the kind of person that rings about a poa is probably in need of the item so the dealer makes it reassuringly expensive.
unfortunately there is no ( CAP ) OR ( GLASSES GUIDE ) available For used tractors and machinery and every dealer has guess a value , some you win some you dontDon't think I've ever seen a car or commercial vehicle advertised with POA. They generally also take trade-ins. So it cant just be the trade-in excuse. POA is a con just to try and find the keenest buyers.
Surprises me that more people dont advertise secondhand machinery themselves and that most are content to just trade in to dealer. I have always sold cars, tractors, machinery secondhand myself and have always got much better price than offered as trade in. Usually get trade price from dealer so can go back to them if I can't sell and then advertise privately. Recently got £3000 more than trade in on sale of 3 year old Discovery. Last tractor was a JD6920 where I think we sold for approx £5000 over dealer trade in offer. This approach is more hassle but I think the price gain is worth the hassle.
I couldnt agree morePOA is a particular pet hate of mine, both dealers and private sellers. If you are selling something you clearly know how much you want for it so why not just put the price on for all to see? Almost as frustrating as classified listings without photos! Happy Friday!
Whilst I completely understand theres not a published second hand guide to work from, as a dealer you must know how much margin and what profit you have in a machine when the you trade it against another item, which then gives you your advertised selling price?unfortunately there is no ( CAP ) OR ( GLASSES GUIDE ) available For used tractors and machinery and every dealer has guess a value , some you win some you dont
a car dealer will take a px at trade value and sell at retail price or above ( some used cars are going for silly money at auctions at the moment .
I'm a firm believer of if someone is a genuine buyer they will phone and ask more questions than just the price .
Agreed there are many variables and you won't always know of any underlying issues, I see both ends of the spectrum with the amount of machines I see on a daily basis through Farm Classifieds. I'm sure there has been a thread about on similar lines on the forum. Modern tractors at the value they are, surely command a higher premium if they've been through the workshop, had minor repairs undertaken and are cleaned and valeted?do you put a price on an ex farm condition ( yes we know the price ) or do put it through the workshop and advertise it fully serviced and washed / repair all the faults that wasn't mentioned when the deal was done IE ( intermittent electrical fault when the engine is warm ) or noisy gearbox when or brake linings worn ) its unbelievable the amount of tractors that have major repairs needed just by being driven on the lorry.
Or when they advertise a machine.....but its replacement won't be delivered for another 6 weeks.
Well its not for frigging sale then is it.
I don't go to Tescos and they say well here's the deal the beef you want is still in the field atm. Should be here week Tuesday do come back then!
I wish...the software doesn't allow it...I do tend to email sellers if there aren't photos, politely requesting they add them before I activate the listing, POA is more of a dealer issue to be honest which gets missed sometimes due to the volume.@Clive and @Chris F and @Mark Hatton can you not stipulate that adverts are only accepted with a price attached and poa is unacceptable.
nick...
Indeed. I don't buy much, and I usually buy S/H. But I do buy stuff. If dealers think I'm a waste of time, or I don't quite meet up to being a " Proper farmer " on here because of that....then tough.Trouble is "tyre kickers" do buy stuff also ,just not so much a "mug ",as dealers like ,possibly?
