sosorry says yer man/wan
thats too late
he/she must have a very structured day schedual
that an hour would mean the difference between getting or not getting them
this is the norm for small squares

Depends how reliable people are in your area. We have on a good day about a 50% chance of people actually turning up. We "sold" all our spare hay one year to a buyer from Faceache, should have asked for cash in advance as we are still waiting for collection.

Seriously, I have got on well selling straw out of the field to regular customers - any that are not collected on the day are stacked into 56 stacks, if it rains I normally lose the top layer.
I have neither the time or inclination to cart small bale straw at harvest.

Thinking of doing this. I am assured Facebook is the answer. Anyone do it? I've visions of my fields strewn with small bales, rain threatening, and lots of promises that don't materialise! Cash up front? On collection? What do you do?
Count them out, I had people taking way more than they paid for. It's then the balance between letting them help themselves and standing guard (wasting my time and therefore value)

I used to buy around 20 tons of small bales at one stage, ok if the farmer has a flat eight ect to load the lorry, seen stacks ( uncoverd) in field when I went to see it once, not flat 8's though one of those squeeze grabs, there was a downpour of rain all night, the farmer in this case was working elsewhere during the day, stacks uncovered all night.
As there's always someone who'll try and take advantage, I'd load it with flat 8 ect then you know what's going on the trailer, small bales hard to come by, if it's good hay there'll always be a demand. folk will come back to you, as I was selling most of it on to locals I'd place ordered bales near the doorway so they knew what was theirs when they came to collect ( it was in a shed ).

I usually get the contractor to put it into rounds, then line out on pallets and cover the top half with plastic. It's a pain tieing it down but it does free up space inside.

Builders' DPM split lengthways is about right. Last year I split the sheet into thirds which is not wide enough. The wind got under it so it was only half covered. Still sold it all no bother. It shocks me how these horsey people buy hay but I suppose if the animals have nothing else, they'll eat it.

So, it will be 4x4s as usual. I'll probably put the smaller fields into small bales. I have a flat 8 but need a larger trailer. They will be going inside.
