I don't mind having a career as a tenant of 40 years, I am lucky enough to have been here that long myself, but having seen how the estate have treated their tenants, it is the last thing I want on my gravestone. i plan to get out while I still have some go left and do all the naughty things I never had time for.I’d be happier with “tenant farmer for 40 years “ over lots of other things
Plus it would mean I’m farming for quite a bit longer!

My son said to me during all the covid stuff that the world had changed and it was quite likely it wasn't going to change back. The times of cheap and easy travel might well have gone and most folk didn't even realise how privileged we all were with being able to hop on a plane pretty much any time you wanted but he said I was different, I did know we were in good times, appreciated it and made the most of it.Been waiting all my life, had some good times but didn't realise it until they'd gone, hopefully heading in to a prolonged one now.
Ffs , where are the tractors???I would miss pottering around in the garden on a Sunday afternoon.
Just my garden is a bit bigger and the shovel doesn’t give me back ache.

I'm going for "north Lincolnshires biggest fanny-magnet". Sadly, it will probably read "has anyone seen my keys".When I go to check that mum is still safely at rest in the churchyard, I walk past the rather sunken gravestone of a farmer who was the local bigwig when we were children. He once boasted at an NFU meeting that he was going to farm all the land between the two nearest towns, including our patch. On his stone, his epitaph just reads "Tenant of XXXXXX farm for 40 years" and I think "That is the last thing I would want engraved on my grave stone!" Stud muffin, Daring kayaker, legendary lothario, Land Rover tinkerer, Runner up in the pub quiz, anything will be better than just "Tenant farmer for 40 years.."

The title, or the fannies?Would that be a competitive pool?
Make sure all the vultures pay their share of the selling costs and the capital gains tax.Well my farm is officially on the market now. Non farming family members want their money out for health reasons. I have two teenage lads but have deliberately not encouraged them to be interested in farming as I knew at some point this day would come.
Sad but perhaps it is not them that are the fools... many working themselves to death for little joy other than to hold onto land that will later get lost to their offspring's divorce lawers...Farmers are amazing. So many would happily sell up and watch the land they farmed go under trees or houses. Real f*cking sad when you think about it.
I hope it's a great new start for you. All the best, make the most of this opportunity and I'm sure there's a lot to look forwards too!Well my farm is officially on the market now. cheap enough at that. farm near by house, old hop kiln and some other buildings that could be converted. some flat some quite banky, . £4million. wants buying out of growing crops too and paying £20k /acre39.5acres for sale near me £12500/ac currently in grass
A bigger block also ranging between £11k and £12.2k per acre.
Surely you would if you could? Pretty sure if I sold some for building, I could put it into better things than farming, for the families‘ future.Farmers are amazing. So many would happily sell up and watch the land they farmed go under trees or houses. Real f*cking sad when you think about it.
We are always getting offers but never consider them, seen too many do it and it never seems to make them happy, they often cant bear paying the tax so just buy a bigger farm with more stress work and worry.Surely you would if you could? I know what you mean, would be a big responsibility, but buy more land on either let it out or on the urban fringe to have another go for the next generarion? Or pay the tax and put it into something else?We are always getting offers but never consider them, seen too many do it and it never seems to make them happy, they often cant bear paying the tax so just buy a bigger farm with more stress work and worry.
