Does anyone have their semen straws tested after delivery? Before they go anywhere near a cow .
I'm always amazed at the difference in conception rates between different bulls and wondered if anyone had ever tried to return unviable straws before using them .

Just had some semen tested with interesting results. Most was very good but one sample isn’t good enough. Just had semen company on phone telling me the test I used is rubbish and their semen is fine 🤣

years ago when we had a dairy herd one bull wouldn't take at all, turned out everyone had the same problem with that bull, semen was not any good for freezing

How much does it cost to test a straw? My vet charges £40 but it goes into a machine that gives a print out that ai companies can't argue with. Before that it was £25 just looking under a microscope.

Biggest upfront cost is that of the straws, if you're only buying 20 of each bull and need to test 2 straws...
