We were very happy to support Olie Walstons send a ton campaign for Ethiopia a fair few years back and will be happy to donate the proceeds of a ton from here,

does it have to be assured by red tractor tho 🙄

No Red Tractor required !!

and yes, well sported, this idea is indeed inspired by Oliver Walstons send a tonne to Africa idea

I just remember O W seeming to be fairly disenchanted with the way Send a Ton worked, how Oxfam were largely a waste of time, etc. Maybe the problems were with trying to physically deliver grain rather than sending the value in cash.
Need to look out Outbursts and reread.

From what I remember it was the proceeds of a ton of grain but yes you do have to be careful with some charities who take a high % of per £ to pay for the running of said charity

the tonne of wheat is symbolic really - anyone can donate to this, any amount as it will all help and be doubled by UK government

2.9% (+ 20p per transaction) fee. Easy money for Just Giving. Much better to donate direct.

Two thirds of that goes to the credit card or debit card issuer. So 1% being used by just giving to fund the money raising. But though this the government is matching. So your donation is doubled.

This is who the money is going to be distributed by.

So, the upshot is...donate direct to DEC. Gift aid is available without using Just Giving.

We have donated but directly to the DEC appeal to bypass the costs of just giving,
But thank you to the team for their efforts in getting this sorted, so although you won't see our donation on the TFF just giving page you can add a virtual 2 tons of barley to your total 👍

We’ve done the same . Why doesn't everyone to it directly and by pass costs ?

You can adjust the cost of just giving to whatyever you like . I always set it to a few pennies to cover any realistic cost of running the site
i did try and find an account to pay in direct, without any joy

Just Giving do provide a service that makes things easy and trustworthy, thry also allow gift aid to apply they more than covers their fee - their fees are actually less than the card processing fees that we would pay collecting directly and that may also be the case sending cash directly to DEC

All these collection services charge sadly but i guess they can not exist for nothing.

if we raise 100k the fee will be a max of 1k i think, cc / paypal charge’s alone would be near double that - TFF will cover fees

it doesn’t matter how people donate - just that they do donate
