Sending spring seed back

If all goes to plan today and tomorrow I might be able to get Skyfall drilled where I’ve got 15 t of spring wheat ( KWS Cochise ) planned.

Has anyone ever sent seed back to the merchant?

I bet they would be glad of it. If not plenty of farmers would buy it, I can’t see you being left with it. The first option is the legal one....

possibly worth more than you paid for it ?

don’t send it back, ask for bids from those in the trade who can legally re sell seed, the merchants won’t think twice about profiteering from it

I've heard loads in a similar situation having drilled winter crop eventually

I would say there would be lots of demand, I tried to get some spring wheat mid Nov (only a couple of tonnes) and 2 merchants both told me no chance back then

The general principle we adopt is that if we can find a buyer for the seed a grower wants to return then we try and help. And this year is a bit unusual in that the value now is certainly higher than it was back before Christmas.

I would expect this year most merchants wouldn't find it difficult to find a new home for spring wheat seed.
