Setting up a website advice

I don't actually like GoDaddy, they were complicit in the theft of a number of our domains and were zero help (they allowed telephone access to an account we then got locked out of). But they do offer a beginners service.

That's why I suggest siteground first. Just not quite as simple, but still easy to do a Wordpress site. Direct Driller website is wordpress.

That us interesting. I am still struggling with trying to get my web site up on my own domain. Nominet tell me my domain is currently registered with Tucows which is a subsiduary of Godaddy (who I am no longer with). But I have received the following notifications from Tucows. Aren't they saying two conflicting things?

It appears the explanation of this is that my domain expired in between the two posts. They now want $200 to give me back my own domain. I am trying to register a new one, similar to the old. How I hate computers and computer stuff!

I empathise entirely. The dream for many has turned into the nightmare of an ever accelerating treadmill and all we hear from the wannabe digital priests is that more is good and total surrender to the matrix is best. Well they can go stick that idea!

I've just registered 2 with Ionos...

One with basic email to get communications underway with a slight diversificaction. I've 2 with Go Daddy sat dormant but ones linked to a Office 365 account with them which is out there and customers use.

I'll look to have them all with Ionos at renewal.

Grist to the mill right here, basically it outlines why the internet is turning to shite, worth a read @Clive

These corporations want to lock down the internet and give us access to nothing more than a few walled gardens. They want to burn down the Library of Alexandria and replace it with a magazine rack.

Why? Because they’ll make more money that way.

This may sound like a conspiracy theory, but this process is moving forward at an alarming rate.

Well, I was wrong. My domain is alive and well and with Tucows, they just won't admit it. I was attempting to use Hostinger as my web hosts. They turned out to be Lithuanian! But I was impressed by their politeness and eagerness to help. After a week and almost getting there, Nominet decided that it did not speak Lithuanian. I think I must have got through about eight hosting companies but I have a thing about grammar and the inability to communicate so dumped them as soon as they started to confuse me (which isn't difficult!).

I think IONES is 1&1 in disguise. So why the alternative name? I was with them yonks ago but got fed up with their 9 to 5 help line IF they deigned to answer. Then, when I quit, they kept taking my money for another two years. I did get a refund eventually but I was running out of swear words.

So I'm off to find yet another hosting company. Isn't life fun?

A bit of a late reply but might help someone in the future, the easiest way to get an online shop up these days is with a site called Shopify, it's really easy and no hassle or technical difficulties, I think you can even try it all out for free first.
