Sewage treatment plant selection!

Hi,

I’m looking to upgrade our existing (very old) septic tank to a sewage treatment plant and I need some advice on cost effective systems. Current top runner is the Vortex 6. I’ve been quoted 6k for supply and placement assuming concrete base foundation (no pipework or electrics).

I’ve read around on the net an I’ve heard of people getting theirs supplied and installed for 4K. Is this really possible?

What at people’s thoughts on the vortex? Are their more effective/ cost friendly alternatives?

A few notes on the site. . .
-flat site with drainage ditch. (We need something that can discharge into a ditch to meet current regs)
-we have a highish water table. (Old borehole nearby)

Any help or advise would be greatly aprciated.

We have a new build and have one that has an external pump/blower and it drains into a ditch. I think it cost about 6k, but they dug some drains as well, if you are doing your own ground work it should be cheaper. They did all the paperwork.
The blower pump, burnt out, its just a 12volt air pump. Replacing and fitting cost £260, you could probably do DIY for half that.
Its in our front yard, masked by tall grasses, you not see or smell it, when we go out I just check the pump is buzzing.

I've just installed a Vortex 6, I think it was just under £2000 + VAT for the tank. Installed it myself on a concrete pad in a big hole and backfilled it with 20 tonnes of reject sand.

I can't see how it could cost £4000 to install one?! Digger and driver for 2 days say £600, another £600 for concrete (as you'd want to concrete at least half way up with a high water table). Presumably you won't need muck away for the soil.

Thanks for the advise guys.

I believe the vortex it pretty easy to repair (compressor on top). I’ve heard the falcon is a better model but I think it costs more. Vortex has gravity fed outlet so I’m expecting I’m gonna have to dig the ditch out a bit.

I’m semi tempted to DIY install but I’m not super confident with the concrete base.

Does anyone know of any cost effective installers in Lincolnshire? Surely I can get someone to do a basic supply & instillation for less that 6k I can do the pipe work and spread the excavated soil myself.

How are you getting on with it @S J H ?
I need to decide very soon what to go for, looked at Klargester locally, was told Marsh be cheaper, but more prone to unpleasant smells from it.
I've buried it, but not used it. A chap I met recently installs a lot of them, and rates them very highly. He's told me to take the compressor out the tank houses and put outside in an electrical box to save it from corrosion.

If you go for one, make sure you fill it with water from the inlet end rather than the outlet, and don't rush to do it in the dark

It's a requirement down here, as far as I know, and I want to discharge output through a soakaway leading to a ditch.
Ok , it's only required here if you are within 50 m to a waterway ,

Don't go for a bio disc from klargester , needs regular money spent on it

where might HERE be? most clay ground wont meet a perculation test these days so it needs to be able to go into a drain so needs to be a treatment plant
aberdeenshire ,

Our one is into clay , the soakaway is 300m3 of clean stone , the percolation test was 97percent , 100 is the worst , we are under no circumstances allowed to discharge to drain ,
