I registered an expression of interest to apply early but there's a couple of glitches in the system so not sent it in yet. I'm not able to apply for the pond management option in any of the arable fields, option isn't in the drop down menu but it is there in the grass fields. And the haymaking supplement on low input grass isn't compatible with the soil management plan fot some reason. Bound to be more computer issues to sort out

How much an hectare is the hay making supplement ?

And can it be used on non low input grassland?

Trying to but have come up against some glitches as well. BND2 is only appearing on permanent pasture fields and the herbal ley option isn’t available on some fields where it should be and there’s a couple of fields where I am being totally locked out of selecting anything for.
Tried to ring last week a couple of times but their phone line was apparently playing up so couldn’t speak to anyone on the SFI24 team so a nice lady on the normal sfi team took some details down but I haven’t heard anything back yet.
Am going to chase again tomorrow as want to get it finalised before the end of the month.
If they are having problems they still can’t sort out for the early ones it’s going to be chaos for them when everyone else is trying to do it. Bit disappointed really.

Takes about 3 weeks from the phone call in to getting email reply back.

Does it actually have to be hay or can you make haylage?

When you harvest the hay crop, you must:

  • in each land parcel, leave an uncut margin around at least half of the edge of the area entered into this action to provide shelter for invertebrates and small mammals
  • leave the cut hay crop to field dry, turning it at least once
  • remove the hay crop once it is field dry – it can be unwrapped or wrapped

Just a query, how wide does the margin have to be seems they think margins are between 2 and 12 m

Like a lot of the other actions there is no definitive answer. If you leave a 0.5m margin, how could an inspector penalise you when there's no stipulation of the minimum margin width?
How dry is 'field dry'? You could mow and ted it one day, bale and wrap the next to meet the requirements.
Cutting shouldn't take place until grass has gone to seed, 'usually late June'. When is late June? 15th? 20th? 25th? Most of our permanent pasture goes to seed by the beginning of June

How many times have they told us ‘to prepare for the end of bps’ just for them to leave us with a scheme we can’t join because they are ‘rolling it out’ three years later still no where forward
Enough times for anyone with half a brain to not be suprised when they have to keep waiting year after year after year and all the BPS has now gone to their landlords... They are all jokers...

I think the IT problems and roll out problems and delays are getting boring now
All this work should have been done before they finished with the last scheme
Having a scheme where some can join some have joined and some aren’t able to is totally wrong especially when there’s three years and counting in between
Then they tell us ‘ if you don’t join sfi then the pot of money will be reduced accordingly and it will go to another government department’
While they have made it unable for us to join

At least all the Direct Driller lot will get their bonus top up payments from 22nd July.. That was most likely the first glitch in the IT they corrected🤣
