Would any sensible landowner sign this contract?

This was a proposal to our local water catchment area been predominantly arable in Yorkshire, it seemed they wished to target different schemes depending on topography and existing land use. The values of payment was what what would be required to make you join I.e what financial return would you expect to accept the proposal. The proposal of once reversion to pp stays pp we replied saying it was unacceptable

Do you really think the mortgage and rent free guys are going to suffer before the big rent , take any ground on guys .
They are quite happy I expect and can live fairy cheaply if need be. Probably have money stashed everywhere.
It'll be the chaps borrowed up to their necks and chasing every acre that’ll suffer first in my opinion .
There you go - if you are progressive then you are f****d.

It's strange that these bodies* cannot understand this attitude and viewpoint.

The £5k then.

The Pilot Participation Payment amount displayed in this table is the amount for the first year of your Agreement. Amounts for subsequent years will be confirmed at a later date. The Pilot Participation Payment amount paid during the term of this Agreement may vary depending on the amount of learning activities the Agreement Holder undertakes.

Has anyone established how much time you will have to commit to get the full £5k ? Is it dependent on how big your pilot is ? If the value of your annual pilot payment is less than £5k are they going to say that your feedback isn't worth much ?

(I am ignoring the unfortunate use of the phrase 'learning activities'. Who, precisely, do they think will be doing the 'learning' in this exercise ?)

Well based on DEFRA valuing our time at around a tenner/hour, should be an easy working out experience...

In case you haven't watched this, several small farms around us have permanent pasture that is never stocked with cattle & cut for hay after July, their fields are now looking utterly destroyed by the beetle in the video, this is something new that hasn't been seen in our area before & it looks as if all the grass has been burned off & rotavated where birds are turning the dead turf over.
They say the only cure is cultivating & reseeding, what happens if you sign up to the ELMS PP scheme & this infection becomes wide spread?

So,

i) You don't know what and when any payments will be paid

ii) The Authority reserves the right to vary these Terms and Conditions or any other part of the Agreement at any time

iii) and now it would seem that Natural England believe they have the authority to prosecute anyone for not asking them for a screening decision for using land in the way it was before entering a scheme.

They don't make barge poles long enough for me to contemplate joining any agreement until these 3 points are addressed.
