SFI pilot

They're obviously working within a given budget, but it's being spread too thinly.

This.
I know many on here deride me for repeating it ad nauseam, but the only land to receive an area payment should be PP. Once you use that as your starting point on how to get the most public good from the public money available, it is like lifting a mist.

I feel exactly the same. Went in to try to influence but its clear that nothing substantial will change. Seriously considering pulling out when my window opens. The rewards for the hassle are not worth it.
Well, I reckon that "co-design" died a death soon after it was mooted. How many who signed up for co design, other than the SFI Pilot entrants, have had anything from DEFRA?

It now seems to consist of Blogs from DEFRA telling us all how wonderful ELMS will be...

Chatting with an aquaintance last week, and they'd had a quick look at SFI, and decided to shove it to one side as being unfit for purpose. I could not disagree with him..... at all!

I just told them I was done and have done nothing more on it.
Ignoring all communications on it now, like most others that are still on it by the sound of it.

The rates on offer are nothing less than insulting tbh.
There's no point jumping through loads of hoops if there's no financial gain at the end of it all.

It's definitely not going to replace the bps, the costs associated with SFI are excessive, and leave little £ over .

You have to feel for Defra a little bit. I'm sure they had good intentions when starting the whole ELMS saga. They could not of forseen the food security agenda returning to the spotlight reducing the appetite for middle class environmentalism. Nor could they of forseen massive increases in prices of everything meaning payment rates are now even more pitiful than they were thanks to inflation.

initially had thought we could have done a bit of winter cover crop , now having read the report findings that this was more than likely to reduce total farm profit it backs up my own calculations so thats out . have done it in the past on a needs must basis i.e weather or weeds/rotation but under this scheme doesnt stack up against autumn sowings even before the hike in prices and costs

DEFRA take the Lead from the Ministererial team, who take if from the PM and her Husband and acolytes.

And therein lies the problem!

I was thinking exactly the same! Was going to email the pilot team to see if I'd dropped off their mailing list but then I thought, no. Leave it. Too busy.

I’d put the whole lot into herbal ley but no I can only put fields ploughed within the last 5 years in … that will be next to none , brilliant
