Shakerator points!!!!!! - help

Spent a couple of hours putting new points on a recently acquired shakerator.

HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU GET THEM TO STAY TIGHT???? (or even stay on the machine, 2 fell off before I even got to the field in spite of being tight in the yard). In work they were OK, but then another one fell off on the way the home.

put a spot of weld on either side of the leg where the point fits, if you feel inside the point you will feel a recess which the weld should fit. New legs have a raised bump on them and it sounds like yours have worn off

As Tom says tin sleeves quick to make and do a good job you would have thought they'd have invented a slightly better way of designing them

Yep find the newer ones better, as said just put a dab of weld on, and FFS wear safety glasses when putting them on and use the proper hammer.
Definitely agree, dab of weld, usually use a sledge to knock them on BUT wear safety glasses!!! A bit of wood wedged in can work well to hold them on at the correct angle and they will soon firm up again. Don't reverse in the ground, go steady on outside run and maybe put tractor out of 4wd by trees, stuck under a tree root and more often than not you will lose the point and probably never find it again even if you swear you know exactly were it is!

This is what we did last year when we put shakerator legs into the sumo quatro and trio here. I honestly dont think we lost one point last year.

its a good idea - keep meaning to get around to doing ours the same

I guess you drilled the leg but just use gas to blow the point holes ?

AT drilled the legs as he had to get a special drill bit then we just marked up the points with chalk and left a student doing the holes.

Can't emphasise the importance of glasses enough while doing this....my neighbour assures me this was the most painful feeling of his life after replacing shakerator points....the eye got infected and subsequently removed...then a 6month wait for the muscles to die to take the glass eye!!

Got a new to me Shakerator that I’ve been using the past few days and seen plenty posts on here about not reversing & loosing points and being careful when fitting new ones.
Noticed tonight I still have all points in place but one leg is now missing a shin.

What is procedure for fitting one of these? Does the point have to come off and then be refitted onto new shin?
Also was there a change at some in the way points and shins are fitted to the leg? If so, mine is a 2013 machine so which type will it be?

Has the shin got a bolt on bracket at the top ,,if so it that ,that stops it dropping of as the point fits over it ,
