Shakerator/subsoiler

After pulling a leg off our old Blench 2 leg subsoiler, I have been thinking that it may no longer be the the bit of kit that suits our needs. In the past we have just subsoiled tramlines, muck piles and land after grass, but a decent machine might persuade us to do a bit more.
I've looked around at secondhand alternatives, but they are either mega money, or basically scrap. The frame on our Blench is in very good condition and very strong. On top of this my workman is a handy fabricator and likes a good project.
We have borrowed a neighbours shakerator to help lift some grassland that the stock had put hard before ploughing and I have been very impressed with it.
Therefore my question is this, would I be better to buy a secondhand shakerator, or should I buy some shakerator legs and modify the Blench frame to produce a non shaking Shakerator?
Also, if we go down the latter route, how many legs could a 190hp tractor comfortably pull?

How deep is your compaction?

No point running a subsoiler deeper than needed and if you only need to go in say 8 to 9 inches then you can pull a wider subsoil than if you need to go in 12". I have a 3.6m 9 leg shakearator and remove the outer pair of legs if needs be, depending on tractor and conditions. Most of the time I have had less than 150 hp on it, but then I never ploughed deeper than 7".

Largely looking at tramlines and land after grass which the stock put hard. Can't go too deep due to underlying sand stone. Looking to go about 9-10 inches.
