Couldn't find a thread for this year.

So here we are... Has many started yet? How are they shearing?

I did my tups today.

Folks local are starting to shout wanting them done but I can't see them being great yet.

Sharpened a few friends gear over the weekend there and I'm supposed to start shearing in the valley floor on Monday... but I might nip off a group at home before this week is out to see what things are like.

Did half a dozen hoggs yesterday as they needed moving out of a neighbours paddock that was eaten up. They sheared nice. Going to get rest of rams and possibly ewe hoggs done this week. Fly sprayed all ewes tails last week as I have no intention of shearing them until mid June at earliest. They have been worked hard this spring.

All done and dusted 2 weeks ago. Though if I got the 1 before last near the start, the whole thing would have been in the market the following day. It was near impossible to shear, got loose on me, didn’t try to go round me just straight for my knee. It’s still purple. Had to do it and last one sitting on wheel of trailer. My wife learnt a few new swear words in the process

We did the (82) Tups last week, which sheared OK, but more ‘kicky’ than normal.
Then did the dry Charollais on Saturday. A few of the hoggs were very sticky still, having been shorn last September.
Will do 100 March lambers and the crossbred dry hoggs (the wool ones anyway) in ten days or so. I can’t imagine anything but dry & early lambers would be very much fun yet, round here anyway.

Had half a dozen with the first twitches of maggots when I was crutching, so I dare say the contractors’ phones will be red hot this week.

Pretty much everything else is Clik’ed and will be left until after weaning, as usual.

We started last week, did 2500 last week (2 shearers) that where really fit dry hoggs that where sticky but sheared 400 yesterday and today and they flew. My own ewes won’t get do until July because I clicked them.

Going to do the rams and make a start on the hoggs tomorrow. Then when everything is set up I'll do a few of the ewes when the lambs come in for a drench just to finish the day off but probably won't do them properly till well into June.
As usual not looking forward to it :cautious:

All done here apart from the rams. Usually shear in may. Main strike season may June here. Shearing being the best form of control. Most sheared fairly well with a lot of rise in one group. Weather's perfect for it too. Had to spray some and leave till June last year as weather was a bit cool, but not too fussed this year.
