Shearing 2020

I was surprised that there were a couple of young locals which was a good start, mind you one had never done a 100 before coming to us and managed 150 yesterday. We were also very lucky to have a Welshman who is clean and fast and prefers shearing down here where the pay is better!!!
Quite a few Welsh boys with contractors up here too. Thought there would be plenty still to shear in Wales.

Anyone with any advice on combs and cutters? I have been using Longhorns wide combs and cutters.

For blackface horned sheep. Short bevel is best for them and width doesn't matter?

For texel and Suffolk crosses what would be good? Would it be medium bevel?

Are medium bevel and long bevel combs no good for blackface horned sheep?

What would be a good comb and cutter for sticky sheep shorn in early season?

Are the more expensive Heinger combs and cutters worthwhile or is it not a noticeable difference?

And are the run in combs a good choice?
Just for interest try a Heiniger topaz and I dont know if you can still get lister claw cutters?
I found that it ( after a few grinds anyway ) was a suitable comb for poorer texel types

Blew a few cobwebs off yestrday, went shearing with the old gang, its funny how it gets in your blood, i was stiff by the end of the day but i still mis it.
Mate put 23 round me, we used to go toe to toe, ffitness soon disapears. Less than a weeks shearing left for them.

Been clipping sheep when its not raining.is between 20-30 an hour a decent pace? Was going well today until got a run of really sticky sheep.
Id say if you can do 30 an hour its a decent pace. How many years have you been shearing, are you shearing on your own?
I always did more with a partner.
Would'nt worry about numbers per hour , do a good job speed will come on its own

Been playing at it for 10 years or so but would say now I can clip half decent.

Do think I clip better if someone else helping.tho sometime have to drag/clip/roll my self which I ain't much fun. Really should go back on a course but never find time.

If you're doing 20-30 working alone, you're doing very well!

Keeping them coming and rolling/packing on your own is not pleasant. I'm happy if I'm doing 20/hr like that...

Don't think I've ever hit 40/hr but I can do mid/high 30's. 2 of us in very good shearing can do 90-100 in about 1hr 15

A mob of 200 is a big day, though. I'd quite like to test myself on a full day just to see what sort of tally I'm capable of
