i have a part time shearer who comes does few at a time on sundays.....bit unusual i know but we treat lambs ect at same time...and we are 'eccentric' 😁 😁 .....had one struck slightly but we found her cast morning before....TBH sheep wern't as 'fit' as i thought they would be....i though given the rain it would 'ripen' them....maybe i'm getting confused with ripening process in malting barley:unsure:

coastal here so cooler + run of east winds helping...but i'm expecting things to get worse:rolleyes:

Tups done today.

Good going but I wouldn't be ripping into the ewes just yet. Some are ready but most don't look anywhere near it. Will try and nip off small groups though

Rams and dry shearlings all done couple weeks ago.

Ewes planned for next weekend. Some of them are peeling well already.

Did my few ewes yesterday and a handful of lambs. Lambs wool went straight on the veg patch. Ewes wool Is still in a heap on the yard. I may decided to bag it up tomorrow if it doesn't rain.
First proper day out today. Some ewes this morning looked crap but it came off ok.
Some hoggs this afternoon, that were shorn as lambs, sheared well but hadn't quite opened fully.

We’ve done all our Feb lambing ewes they went ok but weren’t fast like they usually are odd woolly belly and all up their faces still ours usually fly off but they were plenty heavy enough for me still if we left them another couple of weeks they would be monsters besides we are sorting fat lambs every week and they won’t run with wool on. We still have 150 ewe lambs to shear but we will do silage first they only lambed in April

done some March lambers today they went much better than expected thought it would be a hammer and chisel job but had seen plenty of the green stuff on lowland ground. Made for an early finish though.mainly dry hoggs done with some struck in middle of back already which panicked me into doing my own

Done 800 dry and 250 ewes of my own this week, they are shearing well. 2 of us did 3000 dry hoggs for an estate 2 weeks ago and they where hard going.

Did ours 2 weeks ago. Went pretty well, especially given a lot of them lambed in April but they’re mostly Dorset’s. Poor girls were pretty chilly for a few days at the end of the monsoon but they’re much happier now. Found the start of grubs in half a dozen before shearing so I can guarantee they’d have been a lot worse by now if we hadn’t got on with it.

I like to do mine end May beginning June before strike risk takes off. Best form of fly control. I worm and spray lambs at ssme time so won't need to gather again until week or 2 before weaning.
A touch early here as lamb in April but I know what you mean with strike. Lambs are usually more hassle than ewes though for that. Hacking wool off is never much fun though.

I'm shearing my own April lambing welsh ewes tonight (might end up using the truck lights :ROFLMAO:), I think they are going to hard going but want to clik, vaccinate and worm the lambs and don't what to get them in again.

We lamb April but guessing not as North as yourself. Blowfly season is mainly end May June here. If July is dry it tends to slow down and only picks up again if we get a wet August. Only ever had one or 2 years where blowfly were around in september/October and it was unusually warm.
