I swear the dartmoor fleeces gets into your clothes and doesn't wash out, makes them horrible itchy when you come to wear them next time around

some were beautiful, some were not20-30mins into it - they had either dried off or I was sweating to much as I didn't notice any were wet to touch
The only thing expiring beer wise will be me
I've finished the twins today so well over half way and on track to finish by the weekend.
Not done any for a week hard to believe the difference in the sheep much nicer shearing today after a bit of heat.

Mate rang last night and desperately wanting me to help shear today. Said 200 ewes and some tup, forgot to mention 75 tups!!! Had to do 60 Cotswolds after 70 miles away so been a hard day in the sun.

They where a real treat to shear though. Shore 112 ewes and 41 tups for a pint.

It’s worth not getting any money to be able to put 20 ewes round him in the morning, when we where at collage he would put 3 round my 1.How much was the pint??

I have strained my MCL ligament in my left knee which is slowing this down a bit. Full day tomorrow not sure what delights the guy I help his in store for us. 1000 Mules and Suffolk mules on Monday they were very good shearing.
Last night was a handful of Southdowns and some hoggs with lambs at foot follwed by two Alpacas.

Hoggs and tups all clipped now, surprisingly good considering it hasn’t been great weather here at all.
First grind on some heiniger warrior combs, how come the second teeth on both sides(3rd and 4th to lesser extents) haven’t ground to the scallop? Sheared fine like that, but I’m curious to know the difference between my grind and factory
I finished on Saturday. think I remembered how to do both shoulders properly, or at least made them a lot easier, and it speeded things up quite a bit after years of faffing with them. Feel like I get better at it every year but as usual by the time I get going I'm done for the year

Those teeth have longer scallop on them to begin with. The comb doesn’t do any cutting there due to the way the cutter throws . Also by having the rounded edge of the scallop as opposed to a cutting edge the wool doesn’t “ hook up” and drag on the teeth .
It’s not a great pic but the scallop doesn’t start til further up, some of what is dull was definitely ground at the factory

It’s definitely scallop. This idea came from full wool shearers in NZ, as Ritchie says to reduce drag as a cutting edge isn’t needed there anyway

It can do, but it’s mainly in tough sheep that it helps

So in theory on a show comb you could round off the cutting edge on the outside teeth a fair bit down depending on cutter thickness.
