Shed quotes

Having a few quotes come in now for a shed, how much is it worth to have someone you know does a good job building a shed, over someone that you know is always pushed for time and tends to cut a lot of corners ?

Quite a bit I would say. Sheds are a long term investment, looking at something everyday knowing its not right would get on my wick.

+1

Price is often forgotten quicker than quality of work.

I always end up regretting things I (or those before me) cut corners on - but just have to remind myself I didn't have the money or knowledge at the time.

Also worth remembering that what looks a cheap quote on day 1 can often end up being as expensive or more so than other quotes, plus the hassle factor on top.

All our sheds in the last 25 years have been done by a local family firm who understand our needs, come when we want them ( subject to being given plenty notice ) & take great pride in doing the job to a high standard.
The price may be sometimes be a bit dearer but as said above, you have to use it & look at it every day for years.

I could tell almost the exact same story. It's reassuring to a company you can go to and know what to expect.

Thankfully I find them very competitive too.

Pay the extra I would say and you know what you’re getting. All our buildings have been done by a company about 4 miles away, we had one of their first buildings in the 1970s and used them ever since. When we wanted a new grain store in 2015 grandad decided they would be too expensive so we had to spend weeks getting quotes off other people. Dad got a quote off the local firm anyway and they were similar price to the rest and did their usual top job.

Go for the man with the good reputation.
Your cheaper man may end up needing extra cash for some bits, we have had that in the past, priced for a job and someone else quoted cheaper for the fence, but then needs extra for taking the old fence up they forgot to quote for etc, some firms do it just to secure jobs

Last two big sheds went to the two big outfits in our area who do the work for a lot of big men around our way including large industrial jobs. They both cost a fortune compared to the cheaper men and had to wait ages to get it erected.

18-months ago we did another big shed and went with the cheaper man this time as the other two were busy and I needed it done with 2-months. £9k cheaper. First class job. Finished inside 3-weeks. They will be getting my next jobs.
