Sheep and cattle handling system

Evening,

Ive got a small section of land, probably around 25m x 25m just off one of my paddocks, its currently being used to grow thistles and brambles and I’m toying with the idea of making use of it as a bit of a sheep and cattle handling system for my small flock. Just for standard duties like worming, shearing, tb testing etc.

I was thinking I’d build a couple of small holding pens and a race, maybe using hurdles. Any tips or advice before I go ahead and buy and build something?

Lambs and smaller sized hoggs will get through most cattle hurdles. There are some with extra bars, but young lambs will still slip them.

Telegraph poles, and motorway crash barriers for the perimeter - 3 lines of barrier with a 12"-18" gap between. Put the posts in, run the rylock, then put up the barriers. You've got a good secure holding area which nothing can escape (y)

Draw some designs on paper then peg it out etc and for the first few years just use hurdles so you can continually tweak the design till you are happy then go down the permanent route with telegraph poles & crash barriers etc once you are fully happy with it
