Sheep dipping tank size

I am putting in a dipping tank and was wondering what size is the best. I don't want it to big as the cost of dip.

I would go for narrow and deep. Ours is a biggish round tub which is about 375 gallons when full which is fine for a big number but once it's down to 250 gallons a decent size sheep is standing on the floor. You can keep topping up a small tub and still not have much to dispose of

The covered up one here is 25x4x6? Google’s shows it at close to 17,000 litre, almost 4,000 gal. Last time it was used it was doing 300 store lambs/hr

We used to have a Cooper’s 200 gallon dip at home, the size of which was one of the reasons everybody hated dipping! It made damned hard work of the job when you could only have 2 or 3 in at a time (at a push), making it a long old job to do any number.

Latterly we took a block of grass keep for ten years or so, which had an old wooden handling yard built with a 1000 gallon round dip in the middle of it. By comparison, it was an absolute dream to use, and I would suggest easier to keep the dip concentration topped up properly.

I wouldn’t suggest a thousand gallon dip for 200 sheep, but a 200 gallon dip will make hard work of a miserable job ime. Somewhere in between would be ideal, unless you intend increasing numbers in the future of course.
Personally, for 200 ewes, I’d get a mobile dipper in. Pay a bit more but have the job done properly and in less than half the time, with disposal taken care of too.

What's best round or long narrow n straight
I reckon long and straight, easier to make sure they’ve had a proper dip when they’re single file, got to be a risk of one or two slipping in and straight out while you’re busy dunking another or something, possibly less stressful for them too as they know where they’re going, rather than going round in circles trying to figure out the exit.
