Sheep fec's

Have just had bill for single fec at vets, gone up to almost £36 inc. Any recommendations for labs who supply kits for sending the samples to them for analysis, regular fec users so happy to sign up to reasonably priced package.

That’s daylight robbery! Put the kit together for a couple of hundred pounds and do it yourself. It’s really not difficult and you’ll have the results within minutes, while the sheep are in the yards if needs be.

If you’re happy to pay a subscription, and not confident to count them yourself, then the Fekpak kit allows you to send the image to the cloud, where they do the counting for you.
Personally I’ve never seen the point of that though, as you still have to process the sample for them and the counting is the fascinating bit imo.

About 5 years ago I took down a dozen or so samples to our vets, on their recommendations very useful helpful, then I got the bill  that focussed me to do it myself, it's really interesting, quite enjoy it really:ROFLMAO:.
I think this price hike will encourage us to go down the same route. £15 a test was doable but just under £36 is I think taking the proverbial.

Once you get set up to do it, you’ll think £15 was plenty.;)
It really is a simple job to do yourself, and the kit can be put together relatively inexpensively. If you have somewhere handy you can leave it set up it will also make it easier/more likely to get done ime.

Put a kit together and spend extra for the McMaster slides. That is some cheap learning that effects your income.

It will be quicker learning for you.

Also takeout, rent or get a good book or website to learn about parasites, written or maintained by a Parasitologist. With this kit, at least you will learn about the type(s) of parasites that could be causing you issues. Once you can ID them, then you know how to deal with parasites the correct way.

We put our own together 2 years ago based on advice from various threads on here. It was soon paid for and it is easy to do when you get the hang of the procedure.
Only thing is I wish I had not been so tight and bought a binocular microscope as would be easier than looking with one eye.
