Sheep feet problems / Footrot

Does anyone else seem to be having a problem with sheep feet this year more than normal? Vet has told me it is a bigger problem this year.

Does Footrot reoccur year on year now the ewe has had it or once recovered should it be ok? Or is it now a cull ewe?

Treated with antibiotic spray and Betamox / Zactran depending on how bad it is. Is improving but still a good few lame.

going forward I’m going to put them on to the FootVax programme and footbath every 6/8 weeks - this sound about right?

Just cull them

Got to get the whures walking first

I had a mega outbreak of feet problems last January/February last year - which seemed to sort itself out through lambing...

They've been fine since and then had another outbreak during lambing this year. They don't appear to be getting better themselves. So they're all getting a cull tag as I sort them. They can all get away to feck after weaning

Formalin footbath, if codd i found daily footbathing for 4 days, 2 days break then daily again for 4 days, repeat until it goes. Double the strength of formalin than normal so 2:20 ratio. I was alamycin LA if they’d gone bad and Betamox LA 2 days later I’d still bad, managed to clear it from the farm in around 20 days.

With codd it’s usually from walking fine to 20% unable to walk within 2-3 days. Mine went down with it while the rams were in with the ewes and rams would be walking 1 day and unable to stand the next. All made it fine and none of the flock were culled due to the CODD outbreak.

I jabbed with draxxin to sort them then culled them. I cull anything with bad feet, i can’t stand it

Thank you i will give this a go. I’m doing it pretty much apart from the footbath part. Vet did say copper sulphate but I was reluctant a bit when I seen them improving and was scared to footbath incase the infection passed to good feet through the footbath.

does CODD not reoccur once cleared up?

That was 4/5 years ago and now anything with bad feet is culled but it never re appeared here.

I know nothing about copper sulphate as only ever used formalin.

I'm a recent convert to Draxxin. Worked wonders on the lambs/hoggs

Annoyingly I had wiped out footrot in my ewes through religious footbathing and culling. But the recent wet years and a switch to the mobile yard has meant footbathing isn't as easy... So it's creeping back in 😔

Get some mats, their portable and lambs walk over them easy, I used some with scald in lambs a few miles away a few years ago and they worked brilliantly. Havnt used them since though but still have them (put them on a stone yard and the ewes weight put holes in the covers 🤦🏻‍♂️)
