Sheep hurdles and pens

Due to my latest diversification project (wise in the head??) I've bought some ewes and lambs. I'm currently borrowing some 6ft galvanised steel hurdles for penning them, is it recommended to just purchase these or has anyone any more cost effective means??

Probably better to post this on livestock section. I made wooden hurdles, 6'x3' as 6 x 6 takes up alot of space. They ended up costing about £24/pen excluding my labour. The steel ones are really useful, I just couldn't afford enough or the space :)

Cheers guys, I can buy the steel ones for £27 6ft and stack away and connect nice so I'll just go for them, I couldn't make them, mesh them and paint or galvanize them for that I don't think

Ply cut into 3 is ok if your sheep have no jumping tendancies! Its only 32 high, and mine will jump 3' at feed time if they've been in a while for any reason.

we bought another 60 4ft bateman hurdles just before lambing good job we did, still not enough pens given the weather so we went for the cheapest hurdles around pallets nailed to a sleeper wall it works bloody well

Does anyone know if the hurdles advertised in the Farmers Guardian are any good. We have been quoted £13 each inc. vat for 6' ones.

We got some of the farmers guardian advert ones last year. A pile of 5' and 4'. No complaints, yeah they are light made and might not last 20years. But, They do the job though, we just use them for a month at lambing time so they dont get abuse all year in the yard. Only one bent so far after a cow leaned on it:p! None bent with ewes.
