Sheep keep

Hi, I have lots of farms we winter sheep on, do a licence on and off and pay for the keep. Simples.
I also have some small places I feel we do the more of a service instead of them mowing it in the summer, all very local no money changes hands but I run the hedger round anything and keep the fences propped up.
They now (the small 3 acre places) want it made more official with a grazing licence, what's really the difference between this and the 500 acre farms we have keep sheep on legally? They are stressed that I'm going to claim grazing rights, which I never would. Grazing is never year round 6-7months max.

I do both pay so much a head a week with a few people and also take the land via a land agent. The land agent at their cost sends a grazing licence. One we have is 12 month one is 7 month. You can negotiate terms in all three scenarios.ultimately if that's what the owner of the land wants done properly it works well.

Do they want paying or just paperwork to keep everything "right"?
If the latter, I agree it's a shame people can't live by a handshake these days, but no real problem to put the paperwork in place.
If they want paying, then agree a sum - obviously its worth less than larger blocks - and tell them you'll need to bill them for hedge trimming and fencing.
They may change their minds when they realise what's involved.

Do you use a TLA for moving onto these paddocks? That would be another way of keeping it official, with a limited time period.

Is a tla a temporary holding no? Wife does the paperwork... If so then yes we have a temporary holding no in our own name.

No, not a temporary holding number.
Temporary Land Association.
Links it to your holding for a fixed period (up to 12 months) so you don't have to license on and off.
Would give your "landlord" peace of mind that you only have a fixed period of access as well knowing movement rules are complied with.

Application form is here.
Trading standards aren't involved. Don't even need a field number/ holding number, can use a map reference. Magic map website is helpful.

We've done it on line
Get a satellite map click on the fields and put a start and finish date in
Quite straight forward . might help but wouldn't think it legally helps with a grazing license if your landlord really worries about you claiming grazing rights

You got a link for that?
Was told years ago the intention was to be able to do it online, but never been told or found relevant web page.
Or do you mean you download the form and email it back?

Sounds like a stroker of a land agent or some kind of moronic expert friend has put the fear up them. If it becomes hassle let someone else have the head ache.
