Sheep/lamb weighing setups

Oops that doesn't read quite right!! Trade description & all that!!! Lol

Yes head unit is brand new too!!

I had a back operation & cut down on sheep, run them all through Bateman handling system set up in yard with a combi clamp on end with reader & weight bars that I got a show deal on but obviously didn't need 2 head units & crate is now surplus to requirements too.

You are more confident in the combi clamp weigh set up than I am ! Even though I have all the latest frame and bolts to weigh bars etc , there is still considerable variation in weights depending on where you stand . I now weigh through a weigh crate, especially for lambs & Hoggs, for piece of mind.

Have you got a shearing machine hanging off the auxiliary frame @romneymarsh? I wasn't very happy with how accurate ours was, we've made a separate frame to hang the shearing machine and changed the setting on the weigh head to give it more time to stabilise the weight, I think it's pretty much spot on now.

I did have but it was the first thing to go when I was trying to sort out the issues. The other thing I found , which of course should have been obvious, is to zero the weigh head with the clamp in the closed position as when open it changes the weight by about 10kg can't quite work out why but definitely the case. I reasonably happy weighing ewes (70 kg) . Standing in the middle of the foot plate and recording the weight as soon red light on seems to give consistent results

Please with mine if you operate a gate (front or back) it can cock things up a bit but just try to stand in middle & stop them early so you don't get next ones feet on weigh! Only downside I have with it is you can't grade them in it, 95% of them feel lean on their backs even when they are actually full of meat!!

How do you hold the Weighhead in position with the backframe taken off? We run the shearing machine off a different frame off the machine as it was throwing the weights all over the place!

No not the frame just the arm that comes out the top of the frame to hang the machine off

I don't think it makes any difference on ours if it's open or closed to be honest. Sounds like there could be a problem with the loadbars or weigh head but I'm no expert on these things.

Bloody annoying when these things don't work, ours is the mobile one and it's bolted to the frame so could be the difference. Great tool though.

Ours was when they used wood for the up and down ramps which have been replaced 3 times already - galv sheeting this winter.
We've got a axle and a drawbar for it but they've never been on! Very annoying when they don't work, it certainly doesn't give me any faith in a EID/weighing and recording LW gain system..

Waste of time when you have no faith in them, wasn't very impressed to start with but think we're sorted now.
