Apart from the odd farm, most I know sell most of there lambs in June-October so this “big” uplift in price has only really benefited the store lamb buyers down here anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️
That’s right most haven’t seen the benefit yet. But us store lamb sellers might have a good autumn if every man and his dog want to keep Hogg’s until May next year.

Not that I got any more than last year as I was sold out by early December, but even if I had made a few bob more, that has been more than wiped out by the 20+% loss of lambs to my first Enzootic abortion storm I am currently experiencing. Anyway, I am firmly of the opinion that the minute the population can get back into pubs and restaurants, and lunch-time sandwich bars and cafes, then the price will drop back to more "normal" levels. I hope I am wrong though.

Hello, I’m Janet Hughes. I’m the Programme Director for the Future Farming and Countryside Programme in Defra – the programme that’s phasing out the Common Agricultural Policy and introducing new schemes and services for farmers.

Today (20 September) between 7pm-8pm, I and some of my colleagues will be answering your questions about our work including the Sustainable Farming Incentive, Farming in Protected Landscapes, and our test and trials.

We’ll try to answer at least 15 of your top voted questions, so please vote on the questions you’d most like me to answer.
