Thought this would be the place to ask. Does anyone know the best way to learn? Would I be best to try and find a scanner to learn alongside with first or go straight on a course?

I’m sure there’s a guy who teaches scanning down Wiltshire way? Scans all over the country with a lot of units, I know someone that uses them and they said they go to NZ too to train aswell

Sounds like one of those that shows you if she`s in lamb and HOPEFULLY how many too...
Joking apart - it is a REAL skill to read that screen - I think a lot of folk want to do it but they don`t all really crack it. What a revolutionary management tool.

There was a lady around here who started scanning many years ago.

Her nickname was ‘The Guesser’.

I train the odd person here and there. Gnt them to get a batch of early lambing ewes. I scan them at around 70 days and get the trainee to mark them on the far side. Then we keep running them through over and over honing teir technique until they match up with my scan. Its how i was taught by a very good scanner who was one of the firstat it in the world. The man has sadly passed away since but he really got me going at it.

They come up occasionally, but are normally snapped up by existing contractors as back up machines. You need to buy a new probe anyways so you might as well by a new scanner. 2nd hand probes are high risk.
