Sheep sorrell in hay field

Hi, we have a hay pasture that this year has a large amount of red sorrell or sheep sorrell as its also known in it. Is this something that will need to be sprayed before haying or is it okay for animals?

Appreciate any advice as first time we have come across it in our fields.

Many thanks,

Hi, It's edible, and a good herb for salad. Zour-zebbs (spelling?) is a name for it, hereabouts. The leaves have a delicious zing when nibbled. They can't cause any harm in hay, but could alter the making time.

Was the ground poached over winter? There are a few strong patches of it in a small field here that was a high traffic area between bigger fields. The patches ought really to be grass harrowed and oversown after this year's cut.
