Sheep theft and offenders caught.

I know it’s serious for those losing sheep but £3mil a year is ‘only’ 30 Range Rovers stolen so I guess the police given their very real lack of resources might be somewhat reluctant to spend A lot of time on one sheep. Large scale rustling slightly different matter though.

I suppose it would be a more impressive figure if all losses due to crime were added together; sheep worrying, rural vanadlism (leaving gates open), time lost etc

Yeah, it's neither here nor there to them BUT when I suggested to them that if they weren't that interested, we would deal with the situation ourselves, they positively discouraged it.
In fact one of the coppers came back later (while I wasn't here) and told Mrs YB that if I rang and told them I'd got a gun out to deal with an ongoing rustling situation, they'd just turn up and sieze all my guns .

It's like living in Dodge City but not being able to shoot back :banghead:

if it happened out in their country the locals would beat them to within an inch of their lives, hear the so called locals get a petition up for them to stop them been deported ? or imagine if the police got hold of you out in these countries ? here they demand a lawyer who speaks for them and milks the govt for money to defend them in the end they are sueing the police for wrongful arrest and demanding yes demanding a large monetery compensation?
Aye, when that Ceausescu was persecuting 'em in Romania, chopping their hands off and the like our government were falling over themselves to let them come here.
Turns out the Romanian dictator had the measure of the job though 'cos it looks like his way was the only way to deal with them.

Nicola would welcome them with open arms, (need to populate the wild areas!). Btw that's not the countryside I'm talking about.

Whilst its easy to blame the police for their lack of response and prosecution the real culprit is the government not keeping up with crime. There are not enough prisons or police. Life in there is far too easy. Vast majority of crime has no successful prosecution. Something like 95% never see any court and if they do usually the sentence is community service and other limp wristed punishments.
I know quite a few police and they are sick of the job. One is top terrorist armed police and he is packing it up to be a landscaper. Says he dare not do his job and pull the trigger when needed as it will be him suspended and getting investigated for unlawful killing. Sad but true.

I know there are around 4 police available at night in our area. A vast area! Any domestic incident and 2 will be tied up for hours. So leaving 2 to deal with any incident and can take them 40 minutes to get to it. Hopeless!
Lots of the peak district is more or less unpoliced at night and very little in daylight.
We need a massive change to our system. If I need police help I expect it in minutes. Not some crime number a week later.

dead right about police not keeping up with crime, and the new types? what confidence does it give the general public when police stations like my local one are now closed and boarded up with a for sale sign on them ? go back 50 years we not only had this just open and policed but also police houses in my village with a local policeman who was seen round daily and new most of the people , roll it forward to now and my areas population has at least doubled and where now are the police ? got a police commisoner know , what does he or she do ?

Seen a more active police presence around here over the last year with the lockdowns. A neighbour was interviewed by two police officers for allegedly walking her dog more than once a day, by herself down a quiet lane, licensed premises being searched when a possible customer was seen entering following a tip off from a neighbour etc For these arduous duties West Mercia police have been given a 6% increase in funding from our council tax, presumably to cover their fuel costs.

i think that it wont be long now that the thousands of small businesses and self employed who pay for all these so called public services will go on strike ? we havnt the size to have offshore tax havens the rich have ? or the multinationals such as amazon whos profits have soared since this pandemic crisis yet pay a very small amount ot tax as we do ? yes we have perks and can do a bit of ducking and diving, but on my small family businees the tax , regulations rules etc etc we have to increasing deal with we are now seriously wondering is it worth it ?

Shropshire has something like 10 police covering the whole county including Shrewsbury and Telford on an evening and sometime the territory extends to cover a chunk of Herefordshire too and of that the armed response unit are held in reserve. When you need them the nearest unit might be 30 miles away or more and tied up dealing with a domestic incident or someone having a mental health crisis. Criminals operate with impunity and the situation is only set to get worse. When the likelihood of conviction is low the implications of conviction need to be severe.

The local police often give updates on Facebook of their successes in catching criminals. A large amount are basically down to just luck. Being in the right place at the right time and seeing something suspicious.
This just highlights the need for more boots on the ground. More police. More chance of being caught. More deterrent.
Simple really.

Saw an interesting post on Facebook.
Someone had a load of cakes and eggs I think stolen from a table outside a house with honesty box.
Most people were very outraged with the crime.
A youngish lad got a lot of criticism for his view that if you don't secure something then you asked for it to be stolen. Some just don't have the morals we expect.

Sadly and depressingly true. Telford on its own is like the feckin Wild West, when we aren't in lockdown , never mind the rest of the county :( .
One thing puzzles me though, htf do people get caught drinking and driving? I know of a few who've been banned round here, and you'd think the chances of being caught would be close to zero ??

Mind you I suspect (in normal times) stop any car in rural Shropshire after 10pm at the weekend and in all probability the driver will be taking themselves home from the pub or a friends house having had a pint or 6.
