Sheep wintering and holding numbers

I’ve managed to get some dairy grazing for sheep on two different farms locally, one next door and the other about 5 miles away.
How do people go about licensing movements and does this mean the dairy farmers have to keep records of my sheep going onto they’re holding. Don’t want to do it wrong and get them in any trouble. The sheep should be going onto the dairy farms within the week so need to get organised. Maybe also going to have grazing on two other farms later in the year so want to get things sorted properly. Thanks very much, I know this has probably been covered already 😧

Go on the APHA site , TLA temporary land association , I think this is what you need ,not done mine yet for this time so forgot all the detail , phone them , they will run thru the procedure with you

setting up a TLA takes a while, post etc, guess esp so at the moment if they on short hours. When talking to anyone in authority don't mention any dates you may or may not be moving stock (y) .
I think you may have better options in doing this re a standard movement, but others can advise on that.

@unlacedgecko will know in England.

In Wales I have a 10 mile movement license which allows me to move sheep to any holdings (Fields) within 10 mile that are under my control in a set period so no movement licenses or 6 day standstills.
I go onto my RPW account and add fields on the “manage my land” page and put in the dates I rent the land from and you can put on recurring, so some I have from 01/09-01/04 every winter. I can only assume that the RPA have a similar system in place to stop the bombardment of phone calls this time of year

Is that the same with cattle?

For sheep, standard movement On, making certain that the owner adheres to standstill. Standard movement Off, making sure that home holding adheres to standstill.

Needs careful communication as to date when rams are put in (if that's part of the plan), and a standard movement documents for them.

A TLA is a pain for winter grazing as you have to get all the field numbers from the farm where you are putting the stock. Only benefit is you don't have to fill in a licence if within 10 miles. It is handy if you are moving them on again though.
We normally have trouble with using Dairy farms own holding numbers as they often move calves off every week so the licence has to agree with the dates when they move off!!
