Shelf Life of Brewers Grains

Because of a little diversification going on on the farm here, I will be receiving some brewers grains. Ive never had any dealings with them in the past, save walking past piles in bunkers on various farms through the years. Do they go off? How long are they safe to keep? Any hazards, Beef/Sheep/Chickens

Salt can be used as a preservative to extend the shelf life of both distillers and Brewers Grain.

It will also improve the mineral content as a feed. But neither is suitable for poultry because of their high fibre content.

Used it many moons ago,was high in copper, which was fine for us as we are deficient. Not so clever if you aren't and feed to sheep. We ensiled it and it would obviously last as long as the seal was good. Opened the pit front and worked back keeping the top and sides sheeted. Very little wasted if you are careful. Otherwise it would last about a week tops. The stock loved it fresh and ensiled.

We used to get 150 tonnes delivered in summer into a bay we made just wider than the loader bucket, trod them down between loads and well sheeted, kept beautifully all winter feeding out every day.
Super feed for cattle.
Mind you we are only 15 miles from Burton on Trent where a huge amount of beer was brewed back then (30 yrs ago) so cheap feed.

Thanks for the replies, ours will only be a barrowful a week, Ill probably feed it straight to the cattle. We are not kitted up for it really as we run on forage only.

Another daft question:- As its just been boiled it wouldn't have any microbes to turn it into silage, is it necessary to add anything or does it just happen.
