Shipping container barn

Require a couple of shipping containers. Was thinking of placing one at either side of an area of hardstanding and then spanning the area between them with a roof to create an undercover area to park some machinery in, pallets of minerals etc etc. Anyone done something similar?

If you have to go buy the containers you may as well buy the fabric shelter that goes to the ground and have a better dryer storage area. We built one last winter and I was amazed at what wind it withstood. Friend lost a pole barn in a wind storm but this thing was still standing. 24k $ for an 50 by 80 23 ft high in the centre. Took wife and myself two afternoons to bolt frame together and pull tarp over and secure. Stood it on a pony wall to get extra height also.

Is there a ruling on how regularly and the minimum distance to move?
No purely subjective but it is less so about how and when and more about the use. If you are using a mobile building for a permanent use and you just move it around a yard then the council will say it is just a way of circumventing planning. If it is a mobile workshop that gets taken to the worksite on a regular basis then that would be acceptable.

This is wat we built during the winter. Was very little snow for here and the ground was dry to the extent there wasn’t enough moisture in it to freeze. The side walls took two days on my own and the structure the wife and myself bolted them together and lifted in two afternoons. The tarp was the hardest part but would have been easier with more help.

The further end will be filled in and a18 by 16 roll up entrance the close end I’m going to connect it to the horse shelter so it keeps the rain and snow out. It’s going to be a small arena for wife and kids to ride around in and fir the animals to go in when the fields are to wet to go in in spring. Or if the horses go the entrance is big enough to get some equipment in for storage 🤞. And the wife wondered why I choose the largest door possible lol

There was a firm making something like this I think around the southwest basically using the containers as a foundation had some timbers or steels on the roof of the containers then went off of there with the roof over the top of the lot with a lean-to either side looked a bit like a traditional American style barn

Using sea containers to build shelters or warehouses is a good idea. Installing these containers on quick, easy and reliable foundations, especially if the ground is a bit soft ... have you thought about screw piles?
