Shogun sports

The good thing about the 2.5 is when the timing belt goes - 9 out of 10 times it only needs followers as they are designed to break in the event of pistons making contact with the valves - cheap and easy fix

They will also run fine without the balancer belt, had one for years where it was not on. Bit lumpy on tick over, otherwise barely noticeable

Prone to HG's as others have said, but if caught early enough the head will not need skimming, and its not abad job to do.

Overall, they are reasonably good engines given their origins can be traced back to the late 80's
If its the 4D56 ,its origins actually go back into the mid 70's, main problem with head gaskets and cracked heads was down to heat from being turboed, timing belts were never a problem if replaced every 80,000 km and never run low on oil.

Had a 2002 LWB Shogun it had a new fuel pump which are now not available any more, ,new injections, gearbox ,2 transfer boxes ,the transfer box are bad for breaking the the input shaft and this damages the gearbox, best to stay way from a Shogun

My cars actually going on Friday o_O

this weeks ideas... the budgets gone down due to need money for jobs on another house:cautious: but weirdly I’ve settled on all the 2s in my head

Freelander 2 high mileage but tidy
Terrano 2 very low miles but abit old
Discovery 2 100kish miles

if I didn’t want a old 4x4 to abuse car buying would be easy

I rate the last of the shoguns highly, have a 2012 SWB commercial one here, 130k plus on it now, not had much spent on it at all. Manuals much better than the autos. Pulls like a train.

Look around carefully and low mileage examples can be found, but they are getting quite sort after, as there is pretty much no replacement for them apart from the landcruser.

Underseal had sealed the rust on it ?

Have you still got it ?
Previous lying twit of a Owner had patched some rust badley then undersealed over it o_O he’d also had a shite attempt at covering a hole in the fuel filler neck

It was perfect for what I want while it lasted but I’m not throwing a fortune at a old car added up everything it was gonna need and it’s not worth the hassle..... Might have to join the dark side and get a pickup

I had one just like yours, mine wasn’t rusty just getting tired at 150000 miles, got £800 for it as a trade in.I know the chap who bought it,he paid £2895 for it ,needed a new injector pump (£1200) drive shaft and battery within a month! I now have an l200 double cab and wouldn’t go back to a van now.
