Not much to gain by doing nothing Alf! Yes it sucks , but just fill in the appeal on line. Even I managed it. Ours was through the south Ayrshire council website. Guess your area will have a similar format. Or you could try phoning the Nae Fffing Use for help !:banghead:
Its a matter of principal . If you keep rolling over playing dead , where will it ever end . Whats coming next

Do they tax shooting in England ? I pay double council tax on empty houses . They don't in England . I live 5 mile from the border , so technically and financially, I am been taxed unfairly from my neighbour and opposition in business with the shooting tax and double council tax . The SNP are really a horrible party with a massive chip . Robin hood springs to mined

Not that I am aware off.

Yes get double charged on CT on un used property too

The rateable value is based on the land type and the potential for sporting activities to take place on that land, NOT whether you actually undertake any sporting/shooting activities. This means that every farmer essentially faces a rates bill, however as has been pointed out the vast majority are under £15k, and thus qualify for rates relief- in effect a storm in a teacup- but everyone has to apply for the exemption, it will not be automatically applied.

Interestingly, the only rates bills over £15k that i have herd of so far have been The Forestry Commission....

You couldn't make it up!

if i chose not to rent it out thats my business not the snp's , I bought and paid for it . Its shocking that the snp put an envy tax on it
Err, it was Majors conservative government that introduced the council tax in 1993.

The SNP introduced the council tax amendment for unoccupied dwellings (Scotland) act in 2013 that gave local authorities the ability to set their charges for empty houses, including the ability to NOT CHARGE if unoccupied.

Your local council has decided to charge you for the empty house, not the SNP. Your local council also happens to be a majority for the Scottish conservative and unionist party. You need to take your gripe up with the local tories.

Also, shooting is taxed in England.

Just a thought, but tell them you won’t allow the use of lead shot on your land, for sound environmental reasons. That will reduce its appeal as a shooting let and reduce its worth.

Pleased I don’t live in Scotland; I’d be hopping mad.

No shooting rates bill here (Scottish Borders Council area ), yet.

I almost feel like I've been left out, like the only kid in the class not invited to the party! :D

The forms were initially sent out to Estates, but they got no response from them (a cynic could believe an organised ignore it and it'll go away).

Forms are now being sent to individual farms in the hope that they get a response, even if it is an irate, we're tenants, the Laird has the shooting. That way they'll find out where shooting occurs.

Whether or not you agree with the way this shooting taxation information is being collated, the fact remains that if you're running a business, the government taxes you.

Unless, that is, you're really big, or part of the elite like the new duke of Westminster that inherits over £9 billion, but doesn't pay a penny in tax.

The laird's factor will just demand more rent from the farming tenants to pay the laird's shooting tax anyway.
I hope your factor triples it and puts it on your rent, make you think twice about supporting the SNP and back door tax in future, more tax was inevitable with them and them that support them should bloody well be made too pay for it.

What a nasty, vindictive, petty minded, petulant, pointless, and inflammatory wee thing to post.

Being upset about getting taxed is o natural.
Doesn't mean that you need to be a nasty, vindictive, petulant, petty minded little man though does it?

Go shout your querulous nonsense at your local Msp. It's (tory) Racheal Hamilton that represents your area I'm told.

Talking to your MSP might do nothing other than also let her know a little of your sad wee world, but like many others on here, I'm bored with your empty inflammatory guff. Time to take it elsewhere.

Please.

Shooters like myself would be more than willing to negotiate the shooting rights, personally im looking for duck / wildfowl/ ponds in the fife or perth areas for the 2018/19 season.
given the prices you are being quoted here in this thread i'm more than willing to discuss off setting the costs for the right permission / lease........you might as well get some money back if your getting charged for it anyway ?
