Shortage of good staff

I get the impression that anyone who can tell left from right is currently building things. My local builder told me that it's £200 a day just to make the tea for the chap who leans on the shovel watching the chap on the digger. And that they're good as useless but know there's no other option.

Local factory has been looking for staff for over a year. Now have signing on bonuses / loyalty bonuses for staying a month etc. These don't get over the poor hourly rate and rubbish shift system for s job in the middle of nowhere with no public transport links.

£15-18ph for labourers on building sites around here
But then they only seem to do 5 hours a day 🤷‍♂️

Nobody has any staff wherever you go, pubs, shops, fuel stations, market stalls factories....

Recently I have found that candidates are just using you as a pawn between them and their current employer and it's such a waste of everybody's time.
I missed out on 2 good lads recently because I picked the third and they were a complete time waster who turned into a ghost on their supposed start date only for me to find out that they are still with their current employer for a newly improved hourly rate.

My last blood donation, there were only 2 chairs operating instead of the normal 6 or so. I asked why, shortage of staff, both off sick and left.
Ordered an iwt gp85 last Summer, delivery date mid December. Latest date - end April. Heard on here they are looking for welders.

Yup. Took two of them three days to lay half a pallet of engineering bricks. Needless to say they didn't get paid £18/hr.

Still, when you hear those numbers you can see why folk won't get excited in ag jobs for £11/hr. Or production line staff at £10.30/hr on nights.

We currently have a good job going here but can't seem to find anyone suitable or people just let you down and don't answer their phone .Is this other people's experience

Location plays a major role.
Lot of jobs to be had in the East Midlands … not so much on the Sainted Isle but even we can struggle to get employable people

If you've a family, once you factor in childcare and the cost of getting to and from a job - especially one that may not have any clear career progression - you can see the lack of appeal.

With the rural nature of farm jobs, I'd not touch one that didn't come with a house. And a house that was dry and well insulated at that.

A job at £15/he sounds great. But take off the tax; the diesel at £1.75/Lt; the car to get there and back; the extra childcare because they won't let you work flexi or from home part of the day; pension contribution; etc.

Yes have to agree regarding builders round these parts general builder wants a grand a week and no problem getting it .On site at eight mixer clattering at 3.30 in the pub soon after 4 can’t blame lads for not wanting farm work .
With everyones cost of living going through the roof I can see that extension or new patio going out of the window then that grand a week might be a little harder to get then .

I am currently looking for a GFW and only had one reply from a lad living an hour away so not a realistic option. Not even had the usual knob heads enquiring through my Facebook add.
