Shortage of good staff

Due to having to take the last of my annual leave and BH's, worked three days this week, now off until Tuesday, only working three days next week and the week after, then a 4 day week as there's a BH, three weeks then a long weekend for the Jubilee. That's what a job outside farming is like.
I work outside farming now and sometimes I miss it. Then I realise how much easier life is. 5 day weeks, bank holidays off. Finished at 3.30 in winter.
Firm also provide private medical insurance that covers everything so no NHS waiting times.

A lot of my relatives are farmers, their general opinion seems to be that I’m not as smart as your average farmer, dont work hard and get paid far too much. So how does that stack up logically and who’s the stupid one?

Don't overdo it.

It's a bad job when Killen bros have to advertise.. they usually have a que of young and old ready to jump on a seat.
Good outfit and from what I have heard good lads to work for.

No mention of required experience, only you must have a driving license.. says it all really about recruitment in ag currently.

Believe me when I say it really is hard out here for us pimps.

Nothing wrong with advertising the job to a wider audience I guess?

There always seems to be a long queue of Irish lads travelling abroad to drive tractors in other countries. Why is that?
How much per hour does the average Irish driver get with a contractor and how regular is the work?

Any good driver around me will easily get £12 per hour home with them so 32-35k per annum average for a full-time position including overtime.

There are plenty of farmers & contractors over here who still think that £50 per day is ample and it doesn't matter how long the day is.

The regular work for Agri contractors has always been a problem but they have only themselves to blame as they switched staff on and off like a lightbulb for years, they expect staff to sit unpaid at home and drop all when the phone call comes.

Most young drivers will go away to do a few harvests in mainland Uk/NZ/America just to see something different and generally act the b@llocks and do what young lads usually do, I know that's why I did it.
When I was young and doing harvests in England, I drove a big square baler for 90hrs a week for 8 weeks and it gave me a big cheque to go home with and spend it on wine, fags and lowered cars.. I just squandered whatever money was left after that lol.
