I have been giving this a bit of thought and truth be told should we really be having statues on display of people who made their money trading human beings. It really was an unpleasant trade and one no one can be proud of no matter what good deeds or establishments were funded by the proceeds. I personally am a big fan of the British Empire and all that went with it remember that the Empire tried its best to abolish it. But statues of Slave traders is not good. I do think that education about the slave trade is a good thing everyone needs to know who was responsible and they need to know that it wasn't only the fault of us white folks there were quite a few black folks involved too and don't forget the Muslims.
There is very good Nigerian comedian on the radio here he has a good joke which is basically 'African-Americans there's nothing African about them they are just the ones that caught'

I guess @Danllan would have kept the Hitler statues in Germany?
Or put Jimmy savile's head stone back up,, he done a lot of good deeds and some bad deeds to ,
Hmm... that's you two receipted and filed as f^cking idiots. Let's just deconstruct your comments...

I don't want historical revisionism in the UK, least of all as dictated by an undemocratic minority in mob form. Yet, for you two, that extrapolates to wanting an enemy of the UK and a notorious paedophile celebrated. I am intrigued, please enlighten us as to the reasoning of how you reached that conclusion.

There must be a really good nexus there somewhere, surely; otherwise you'd just be throwing abuse at someone you disagree with because you've no arguments to support your own preferred narrative. :)

Better ban the singing of this too while they're at it. Written by the former slave trader, John Newton in the 1770's.

Depends how far they want to go?

Muhammed the prophet of Islam was a slave owner, as described in the Koran, if we are pulling down monuments that venerate slave owners the mosques will have to go ?

If it wasn't for the 700,00 muslims ( mainly from modern day Pakistan and Bangladesh) who came to our aid in the war from 1914, there would be no England. 89,000 gave the ultimate sacrifice and died for Britain. 20% of empire recruits were muslims. 280,000 Muslim Algerians, Tunisians and Morrocans fought for us.

Considering many Muslim soldiers were awarded the highest and most prestigious military award (Victoria Cross), I think a statute to honour their services and sacrifices would be befitting.

your not saying slavery was right,, but pretty dam close
Not at all, what I'm saying is those who are the descendants of the slaves, many of whom suffered very badly live in better conditions and have a far better standard of living than the descendants from those who weren't taken from their native land. Yet many in the states want cash in compensation for the suffering of the slaves, to me that is them wanting some $$$ for something they didnt suffer, it's a bit late for the slaves they died many many years ago

Please read my post, I was referring to a statue for Muslim soilders not a combined memorial? We have memorials for our own dead in every city, how about a few independent ones for the 89,000 muslims who also gave their lives?

With regards to this thread, it is impossible to delete history. However, many of us who are white English who have sisters and daughters are rightly ashamed about parts of our history which involves sexual exploitation, such as the fact that black slave girls under the age of 5 were sold at auction to white men to fulfil their sexual desires. I for one have no issue with government approved removal of statues of anyone who was involved in a trade which assisted paedophiles and the sale of children, or the sale of young women to be used as comfort women (sex slaves) for dirty old white men to systematically sexually abuse and rape on a daily basis.

It's gone too far now, whereby they need to stamp it all out ASAP....

Zero tolerance for idiots like this, as it has sweet FA to do with what happened - it is purely a racially motivated drive to cause unrest, as they can't accept All lives matter, not just Black....

If they do not curtail this quickly, it will escalate to a dangerous situation with White Supremacy groups coming out and standing against this movement.

The Police are doing nothing but run away by the looks of things - probably due to being reprimanded for racial injustice.

Apart from people demanding the removal to all references to Cecil Rhodes, I now see that BBC, Netflix and others have removed Little Britain and Come Fly With Me from their back catalogue because Walliams and Lucas blacked up occasionally

f**k me
